Here's what will happen if you take a close-up photo. It MIGHT say Multibeam on a US car, but it is NOT Multibeam! An email from Mercedes should clear this up:
Thank you for your additional email.
While you are certainly correct, the labeling does state"Multibeam LED", we have verified with our product team that the U.S. does not support this function (nor is it advertised as such). It is confirmed your vehicles headlamps are and function as LED Intelligent Light System headlamps.
As we understand the confusion from the label stating otherwise, please be advised we have brought this to the attention of our product management team for internal review
We appreciate the opportunity to respond.
Kind Regards,

Unfortunately, since I'm registering the car in California while buying in Massachusetts, I will have to wait 2 weeks for the plates to come in before I can take it off the lot. Will definitely take a close pic of the headlights once I see it in person.

Audi can just turn the feature on with a reflash. No word from Mercedes but I highly doubt they would do the same.

In anticipation that these headlamps will be approved, Audi already sells vehicles in the United States with “matrix-design” LED lamps that need only a software upgrade to turn on the adaptive beam, Mr. Berlitz said. If the American standards differ from Europe’s, new software will have to be written, he said.

Intelligent Light System headlamps
Pioneered by Mercedes-Benz, active LED headlamps generate light that's perceived much like natural daylight. Active Curve Illumination and Adaptive Highbeam Assist continuously adjust the beam pattern of the LEDs in each headlamp to help maximize the illumination of corners and straightaways, without creating glare for other drivers.

My guess is that it's the same hardware / lights / camera(s). The US system just doesn't have the adaptive shutters activated.
My old F30 BMW was similar and there was a tool some folks had that could code or enable / disable features and the adaptive lights was one of these.
If the US ever does change the rules, I believe Mercedes can do a simple update and enable them.
BTW, I'm picking up our GLC 300 on Monday in Sindelfingen and I will make a point to ask whether the feature is enabled in EU and then gets disabled when the vehicle reaches the US.
As far as I know they configure for EU maps and then swap these out for US maps, so they could do other updates like that.

Whats is the answer from the horse's mouth?

Answer still unknown. The guy that did the orientation did not know.
Also, it turns out that the new MBUX system does NOT come with EU maps when picked up for Euro Delivery - at least mine did not.
This even stumped the guy doing the orientation. We ended up verifying CarPlay / Android Auto worked and used that.

The lights do say multibeam LED and they work great. Definitely no shading feature though.
/QUOTE]
Great that you are happy regardless of them being Multibeam LEDs or otherwise.
Edit....I guess the only way to easily confirm if they are Multibeam is to observe the way they start up ie the pattern/movement that occurs when they are switched on.
The pattern is different for Multibeam and standard Intelligent LEDS.
