Saw this distortion on a test drive

+1 I'm in the market for a GLC and test drove one last week. Immediately I felt very strange/queasy as my eyes tried to compensate for the distortion. Anyone who has learned to wear progressive eyeglass lenses will recognize the same process of adaptation as your brain learns to process the distortion of the windshield to produce straight lines from objects your brain is reading as straight etc.

Glad to see this thread! I love the car and hope to get one soon but I'll check the windshield situation carefully before I accept one.

I have no distortion in my windshield. I do have the HUD. Probably a different company makes it, I would think.

E350 4M 2007 and 2014 Ford Focus ST
I bought a 2014 E350 CPO 20K in January and couldn't stand the sandblasted windshield.
The glass was $775 and they subbed the replacement to a local outfit that did the work at the MB shop......200 bucks more. My salesman said they would buy the glass, I said no, He isn't getting off that easy, but they should have spotted it during the inspection. It was pretty bad at night. Well after the glass guy left his cutter on the seat and the porter sat on it...... I feel they don't deserve my business in the future. Now I have a nice view and a one inch gash in my MBtex and nobody wants to take blame.
ps- the oil change was "free"

We only have the distortion on the drivers side, so you need to look through the windscreen from different angles in the car.

I just wanted to post an update. We received our car back after the windscreen replacement and the distortion is gone. Thus, getting your windscreen replaced is the best decision you can make if you have the distortion issue.

I did not notice any distortion when I test drove my GLC. Then a few days later, while wearing a different pair of glasses, I felt the eye strain. I own sever different pairs of eyeglasses, and while wearing most of them, it is not an issue...just this one pair is really noticeable. So I do not know whether or not it is the windshield, my glass, or a combination. I have different kinds of lenses in the glasses too...the ones that I feel the distortion in the most are those that were a new lens that is laser cut. Now, I am wondering if it is just psychosomatic, lol. It seems if I look for it, I feel it. The other day I had a lot on my mind with a very specific agenda to get several errands done, and afterward, I thought, I did not notice a thing.

I think if you had the level of distortion that we had in our vehicle originally that there wouldn't be a question of whether you see it. It sounds like your situation might be mild.

It's difficult to photograph. Stand back from your car and look across glass as you walk by. It will be wavy or look like water is frozen on it in my case.

The dealer that we purchased the vehicle from did the replacement. It was a no charge warranty replacement.

This describes my experience perfectly, in a car delivered in June.
MB have changed the screen. It is better but still a problem.
I've been to the opticians too.
I wonder if this is a production problem and better screens will be available in due course.

My windshield had strange filaments in it. When in very bright sun and at night in the glare of headlights the strands of whatever it was would light up and create glare. I did think I would just deal with it but after a few other things happened with my car I got a little irritated and took my laundry list of issues to a service appointment. The end result was that the service manager looked at was I was talking about, agreed, and put in new glass. It was termed as "customer satisfaction and retention" on the service summary.
I did take a picture before it was replaced, but it came out looking like a dirty windshield. I was able to show them the issue by using the flashlight on my iPhone.
Anyone else see this?
