Most of them are very easy to install. Some even just plug into your cig lighter. It's really up to you how much time and effort you want to spend to make all the wires tucked away.

As I was asked in another post about dash cams, here's mine. Unfortunately there's no power point in the glove box and I'm not into wiring into the fuse box so I've hidden the cables as best I could into the central console. It all looks pretty good tbh.
Dash Cam is the Cobra 1080P here
Not that expensive but does track GPS and time so with the PC program you can see how fast you were going. Great as long as you were on the right side of the speed limit if something happens. You could always click out the MicroUSB and claim it wasn't working. In fact, I've told the wife that if she's in an accident to not offer the footage until after the event and it's been reviewed....
And, here's the video it gives (showing Distronic emergency braking a little)
