MEDIA and IPOD

So, had my GLC for about 4 months now. Overall very happy ethe transmission and the front suspension issues. Yep.

But, I am old school and use an old IPOD to store and play all 10,000 songs through the MB stereo.

I have just always connected via the USB ports in the dash console. It has NEVER been a problem until today. Now for some reason my IPOD is unrecognizable or unsupported by the MB system

Thought it may be an old cord causing some trouble . Changed it. No better.

Then I thought maybe it just all needs to be turned off and disconnected then started up again from scratch. Still no better.

Any thoughts?

Before you new kids tell me I shouldn't use an IPOD anyway etc...I get it. But the solution I am trying to solve for is why everything worked just fine up until yesterday and now it isn't recognized at all.

Ipod is functioning fine
Cord wasn't the answer.
Restart/reboot wasn't the answer.

Looking for genius assistance !!!

Regards everyone

Jeff

I won't claim genius, but... have you tried rebooting COMAND? I've solved an audio problem or two this way (on a much older MB/COMAND, granted, so I can't wholeheartedly recommend this). Find the fuse for the COMAND head end, pull the fuse, wait 10 minutes, re-insert. Note you will likely lose a lot of settings, saved nav destinations, etc. But if all else fails, might be worth a go.

no need to pull fuse as locking the doors for 10+ reboots the comand on the next startup

Had this same issue on my 30GB Gen 2 ipod. Problem was the battery on the ipod went flat because I didn't drive for long enough to keep charge up. The ipod turned back on and looked ok but it wouldn't connect to Command. Re boot of ipod sorted it out instantly.

That's genius (in comparison to myself, anyway).

Anytime you exit the car and lock the doors for 10+mins your headunit will reboot on the next engine start. Now I'm not sure what Madman says will work or not all I was implying is you could reboot the headunit this way instead of removing the fuse

There may be a difference - similar to the difference in an Apple device between a 'warm' and 'cold' reboot. Fuse removal essentially resets the unit to factory default as it removes all power from the unit. Not sure at all whether this would make a difference (my COMAND was circa 2007), and also not sure whether it could solve the OP's problem. But I'm damn good at semi-educated speculation!
