I have no idea what a "waiting game" is to order a rig - since while you are flundering around - on a GLC from Germany others are ordering and taking up those slots - and in 30 days you will be out of time to get a rig this year.
With ALL the dealers in SoCal - starting with your latest offer - done by remote control - $750 over invoice - at $54K is about $3000 off - what are you shooting for ?
If you don't set a target for yourself - you won't make it to the finish line..
Some people enjoy fishing - and that's fine - other's want to be driving their new MB - and the clock is ticking down for this calendar year - really..

Importantly - what delivery date ?
Whether either RWD or AWD - there are a few P3 changeable slots in SoCal for 3rd decade Sept production - in Germany - closing this week - check Van Nuys in 4WD if not too incovenient for you.
Probably by the end of next week - the healthy # of 1st decade October will close - again - again production date is date finished up in Germany.
Then - as we move out 3/4 weeks from now into mid-Sept - the factory will close production slots sooner - and boom - there goes the calendar year.
P3 is fine - tighter availability for that feature - so if you want your rig sooner - than later - a dealer that has a GLC w/P3 on order queue now - who can still change the order to colors/other-features you want - is going to be able to deliver sooner than a dealer who has to start from scratch.
So delivery - actually owning and driving your GLC - does become a factor with what you want to have.
Ordering a rig is a different animal than "best price for rig-on-the-lot".
Set a target and go for it - I have seen others lose this Aug 15 - Sept 15 window - and become very disappointed end-Sept/beg-Oct when production for what you want drops into next calendar year.
Keep the beat !

For me it's the first time ordering something so Im trying to learn the ropes here and fabbrisd1 I really appreciate you helping/pointing things out. I'm learning some new things from you, so Thankyou. Last 2 Mercedes I have had are 91 350 SD Turbo and 08 350E purchased from local dealer on lot. So to order something for the first time and the way I want it I'm excited and for me to wait till November to get it delivered would be great. That's when my TDI goes back to VW.

I might as well make the drive down to SoCal if the saving is worth it.

Just got back from SoCal last week where I attended a wedding. Visited one of the largest dealerships in Orange County and mentioned the 10% GLC300 discounts that were being quoted on this site. Told a salesman I was trying to order a car in Georgia but if I could get a 10% discount I would buy one there and drive it back to Georgia. The salesman looked at me like I was from Mars and replied, "sometimes people post things to get you to NOT buy a certain car". I can only assume he meant that posting 10% discounts on the internet and then not getting them would hurt MB sales or else he personally just did not want to honor a 10% deal.
Jim has mentioned there is a problem at the factory with allocations of Sport Pkg, so he sent my order to Mercedes for an allocation for my particular GLC to be built. Therefore, until that allocation is given to the dealer, Jim couldn't even provide me with an order # as it's assigned by Mercedes. A HUGE bummer indeed!
I'm fine with waiting for a month or two for special ordering, but 5 months for a run of the mill semi-luxo SUV? Now don't get me wrong I love the GLC and Jim has the best prices, but such a long wait is no fun

One last thing. Jim insists that it's unnecessary to leave a deposit for special ordering. Is this the norm with SoCal dealers? The last thing I need is to have my particular spec'd GLC getting sold under me. I don't see how I could get some sort of reassurance here.
As always, any comments or advice is appreciated.
As for waiting 5 months it's up to you. If the specs for the car you want are pretty common you could always just see what comes up on the lot. I'm pretty picky, so I have no problem waiting.
With the wider # of Mercedes models - SUV's are "tight" availability - especially GLC's and GLS's.
If I remember correctly - GLC's are now locked down thru Oct - so changeable orders are in Nov production - remember GLC's are currently made in Euro - so you have boat/delivery time.
Keep the beat !
