Cabin air filter replacement

I'm due for my A service on my 2016 GLC 300 4 matic. Rather than go through the hassle and expense of dropping the car at the dealer I chose to buy the parts at the local dealership where I purchased the car and do the work myself. My last car was a 2005 S500 and I did all the maintenance on it myself and rather enjoyed it.

I asked the parts guy for an air filter, and oil filter and a cabin filter. He came back with three filters and away I went. It turns out he provided me with two cabin filters and no true air filter. The parts are listed as follows on the invoice:

270-180-01-09 604A TS Oil Filter $18.90 ( this seems right but expensive)
166-830-02-18 301F Dust Filter $22.00
205-835-01-47 706C Fine Dust Filter

I got the panel off behind the glove box and the fine dust filter is the proper replacement for the filter back there. By the way, does anyone have any experience or tips on how to best get access to drop that filter? The plastic part behind the glove box comes out after some struggle but the filter won't drop due to the carpet being in the way. The carpet is molded one piece so it doesn't flop out of the way easily.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but it appears from a Google search that the dust filter ( 166-830-02-18) is one of 2 cabin filters for the ML 350. Are there two cabin filters for the GLC?

Yes, there are 2 cabin filters on the GLC. The one on the inside is a pain. The other filter is above the battery on the passenger side, it faces down. You will see the black plastic scoop when you remove the cover on that side.

Mitch,
Thanks for the concise and accurate information. It took me about 4 minutes to change out the cabin filter under the hood. This is why I read these forums.

I miss having a 10 year old car and a virtual limitless number of Youtube videos and .pdfs to work from. But then again, I really like the new ride.

Per maintenance manual you change Dust filter @ Service A and Dust & Cabin filter (Charcoal Activated) @ Service B. Changing Dust filter is a breeze (took me <2 minutes to do using Mann Filter), while the other is more involved (but I have another year to learn how to do it?

Hello all. I have the same problem, can't get access to the cabin filter in the passenger footwell. Has anyone managed to fold the carpet down without breaking anything? I can release the plastic panel inside the footwell with a T20, but can't pull it out, or see how the filter has space to drop down without folding the carpet out of the way.

That main cabin filter is a buggar. I just wanted to see what it was like so I tore into it. You do have to get the carpet out of the way plus everything else. Worth every penny to have Mercedes do it. I ended up breaking one of the tabs in the process. Mercedes tends to use cheap plastic, this is the third plastic piece to break on the GLC. First up was the dumb hook on the gas filler door to hold the cap while you are filling up.

2016 GLC300 Replacing cabin air filter

Hi Everyone, So my 2016 GLC300 is close to its 20K maintenance and ever since I got it I have done all of it, As some of you know that oil filter is not that bad to change, Outside air filter is not bad and when it comes to cabin air filter there is 2, one goes on top of the battery and was simple but the one inside the car was a bit more of a paint but not that bad to change, I try to make a video is not great but it gives you an idea of what you need to do.'

Here is the link:

About getting to the filter you have to remove the plastic cover that is held with 1 screw and clips, just make sure when you pull on the plastic remember that you have to unplug the AC temperature sensor and the cable for the bulb.
Hope this video can help someone.

In my opinion i think both filter could take another 5K to 10K miles, I guess it all depends on where you drive. I change the outside filter at 10K. One of the main reason i change the inside filter is because it was getting a bad odor inside, Once i change the filter is gone.

If you have the maintenance manual for the 2016 GLC 300, would you mind listing out what the B4 scheduled maintenance includes?

Same as service at 20K or 2 years:
Must do
Oil/filter change
Brake fluid change
Dust/cabin air filter replacement
A bunch of checks

Recommended:
Fluid top off
Wiper blade/insert change
Tire Rotation

Thanks! the Mercedes site mentions changing out the "combination filter in climate control" - is that one of the filters jeffn23 is talking about at the beginning of this thread?

GLE 350 and ML350
Hey guys, I have a 2018 GLE 4Matic and found that changing the cabin air filters is different from my 2016 GLE 4matic. Has anyone seen a video on how to change the cabin filters in the 2018 GLE 350 4matic yet? I have searched the forum and google as well with no luck. Hoping someone can help? Thanks very much!!
