2018 GLC 300 4MATIC on Order
Just placed the order for 2018 GLC 300 4Matic a week back. 2017's were no longer customizable. In a strange move, MB locked all the cars in the Production for customization. Its giving a Production date of June 2017 now. So, my 2-2.5 month long wait starts now.

Order guide says U09 MB-Tex dash with topstitching is now a standalone option. Dealer says sorry, computer won't let him add U09 to the order without also adding the leather seating package.

I have a European Delivery '17 scheduled for pick-up on 6/22. Should I ask my dealer to change it to an '18? I am going to be in Europe for a tennis tournament that week anyway so I do save a ton on airfare already being out there.

But, my main disappointments when I built my '17 were:

1. No Natural Grain Ash Trim like C-class
2. Espresso MB-Tex interior required Sport package which I didn't want (do NOT want bigger tires or the expense)
3. No Car Play

Now, I am getting Package 3 because I want all the safety/autonomous driving features so I can't get Car Play still. Fine. But I definitely could get the Natural Grain Ash trim and it appears that they eliminated the Sport package and I didn't see anything prohibiting Espress MB-Tex on non-Sport anymore. Would that be correct?

So I could get an '18 with the interior wood I want and the seats I want but I'd have to pay for the trip out there versus already being out there. Tough. Plus I'd probably lose some good will from the dealer. Anyone have thoughts? I do really like the silk MB-Tex and the burl wood, but the Espress Brown and Natural Brown are just so hot.

@bergamini

As per the information I have from my Dealership, 2018's will go into Production from June. So you may get a delivery towards the end of June.

Also, I believe "Natural Grain Black Ashwood Trim" is available in 2017. The only addition in 2018 is the "Natural Grain Brown Ashwood Trim".

If Carplay is important for you, be ready to ditch the MB COMAND Navigation, bigger Infotainment Screen and that cool looking Touchpad as in 2018, The Smartphone Integration Package cannot be coupled with Multimedia Package. (Stupid move from MB)

I wanted the brown ashwood trim. Do not like the black. Sorry for vagueness in my original post. Don't know why I can't stand black/gray interior wood trim.

Having the Package 3 stuff is more important to me than Carplay so I won't ditch that. My considerations for an '18 switch would only be for the wood trim and seat fabric color.

is the 2018 model going to be drastically different than the 2017 one?

I have a 2017 one coming, but I really don't like the fact that I was somewhat forced with piano black lacquer since I couldn't customize anymore at the time...
Carplay would be nice with 2018 but wouldn't really matter since it is not compatible with the COMAND system...

Before I built my order, I was after the piano black. However, seeing the piano black in person and a clean version of the black ash, I am glad MB made the switch. That being said, I'm dying a slow death waiting for my 18 to get here.

Yeah, my dealer pretty much told me that I "have to" stick with the build, because it's just the way it is... lol. He said the open pore ashe wood is not available anymore lol.

Is he BSing or should I ask for MY18?
I'm in Canada lol..

Caliver, don't worry about the piano black, it looks good and is easy to clean.

If you check out the DOG Natural Grain Black Ash is standard now for the center trim with aluminum on the doors (this is my preferred setup). Natural Grain Ash in both brown and black is available in the GLC for MY18, but the 43 is limited to merely the aforementioned combo of ash/aluminum, if you want natural grain. Not sure on what the 63 will be available with.

It looks like natural grain black ashe/aluminum is only available on kappa leather set-ups, as per the DOG. Or maybe I am looking at a different place.

I think I'll likely have to re-configure/wait for MY18 lol, esp considering that I likely really want to keep the car for a long time..

You're correct in that....if you go with the 43 it's standard!!

But you can still get the natural grain ash and it looks pretty good.

Some questions about Options

I'm looking at potentially building an '18 later this year.

Can someone explain to me why you can't get the trailer hitch with the Advanced Parking Assist Package? I don't see why those two have to be mutually exclusive (and why Hands Free isn't a standalone option).

Also, what exactly is Android Auto/Apple CarPlay? I've used bluetooth audio/phone for my Galaxy S7 on my '14 E350 so I don't see the difference?

It has to do with the handsfree access. My assumption is that the sensor and/or items related to that system interfere with the hitch and vice versa.

Android Auto and Apple's Car Play allow you to mirror your phone on the vehicles display and run your phone's apps on the car not just stream music and take/make calls. Since it isn't a touchscreen this seems like it would confuse my brain but it would let you run Waze or the like for navigation instead of garmin or comand. I haven't used it on any platform and am foregoing it for the larger screen that the Multimedia Package gets you.

My dealer told me the hitch/parking assist is a liability issue... Since the hitch adds extra length if it backs into something... MB doesn't want to be liable for that

It would be cool if it worked like that, but it doesn't let you use all apps on your phone, only Car play approved ones so the best apps such as WAZE do not work.

is that the same for Android Auto, as if it is that makes my decision that much easier to live with.

I used the Google: https://play.google.com/store/apps/c...droid_auto_all

No Waze with Android either. Not going to miss that "integration" one bit.

complete bulls**t.
I ordered the 360 parking assist with the electrical trail hitch and what it does is that it cancels the "foot opening" of the trunk, as the sensor is normally in the place of the hook.

US does not allow you to order the hitch if you have the park assist. Whatever the reason doesn't really matter because the order can't be submitted until you decide which one you want.
