local service if buying out of state
With my GLC on the way I wanted to ask for opinions on my scenario; where I purchased the GLC out of state rather than using my local dealer.
What do you typically see from the service desk of the local dealer in this situation? Do they care where you got the car from? Would I get better treatment from the service dept if I had bought from that dealer?
My initial thought is that they really don't care where you got your MB from...they're happy to charge you for service on your vehicle wherever it came from.
Thoughts?
Cheers,
---John

Hasn't been a problem for me. In fact, I get the impression that the service guys might be happier if you didn't buy the car from their dealership. That way you can't drag your salesperson into an issue that's not going your way.....

They make more percentage-wise on service than sales, I’m told.

Service dept. doesn't compete with the sales dept. Their money/profit is based on anyone coming into the service dept. We have a local dealer where the service people consider the sales people as transients.

One of the reasons for buying a Mercedes is the large network of dealerships, especially in major cities, that owners can depend on to service and repair the vehicle when traveling. I've used several dealerships for service on the seven Mercedes I've owned, and never had the feeling that my business wasn't warmly welcomed, no matter where I bought the car. One exception I've found is that some dealers don't offer free car washes to buyers from other dealers, unless the car is also in for service.

Up until very recently, dealers in NY would not give you a loaner unless you purchased the car from them. Either this changed, or I got lucky - because the last time I brought my car in for service, the lady asked me if I need a loaner, even though I did not get the car from that dealer.
The dealer also has free car washes (any time) if you buy a car from them.
