Speed limiter dropped on GLC43 from 155mph to 130mph
I just noticed that the speed limiter was changed on the GLC43 MY18.
In the MY17 dealer ordering guide the GLC43 is limited to 155mph
But in the MY18 GLC43 the dealer ordering guide lists the GLC43 top speed at 130mph. The GLC63 is limited to 155mph.
Loving my MY17 all the more. Of course this is all theoretical. But it's nice to know.
Short answer is likely to meet stricter fuel efficiency and pollution standards for fleet-wide certification. As we get closer to the 2025 52.5 mpg fleet fuel efficiency mandate all auto makers will be playing with whatever they can (electronic limiters, lighter materials, etc.) to achieve those numbers to make the governments happy. There also seems to be a push by a few politicians to limit the top speed of vehicles for safety reasons. As they call for lower speed limits on various city and local streets, they also think that vehicles shouldn't be able to go as fast as they do.
That doesn’t make sense. The CAFE standards record emissions and fuel efficiently at specific speeds, not the maximum speed. I read up on this stuff and like to put down transit advocates who don’t realize that in the burbs transit emits more greenhouse gases than cars.
only when you fill a bus or train is it efficient for emissions and fuel efficiency. In suburbs load factors are lower.
