GLC 300 Coupe or Acura RDX - Lease Takeover
Hello all, long time reader first time poster. My current lease is up next month on my X4 and I was hoping to get into the 2020 GLC 43 by June/July, from what has been released to the media, the new GLC won’t be available state side until late 2019 and who knows if the 43 will be released at the same time. I was ok going without a car for a couple of months (use Uber i guess), but going without a car that long will drive me nuts.
So here is my dilemma, I can take over a lease of a 2017 GLC 300 Coupe, pretty loaded for 10 months or start a 3 year lease on a Acura RDX (really like it, like really like it). Pricing will be roughly the same 50-75 difference. My question, is the GLC 300 quick and sporty enough compared to the RDX that I will not regret it. I am coming from a 2016 BMW X4 M40i, which in my opinion is a beast. I know the RDX wont compare to it at all but I have heard great things about the RDX and heard the steering is soft on the GLC. The X4 was such an amazing drive it really was a joy to drive. I have not test drove either car so I will not pass judgment on either. I just want to get your opinion on what is the more logical and/or enjoyable choice.

Sounds like you want the RDX, so go for it. GLC steering in Sport mode is good. Both are apples vs oranges when talking about an M-version BMW.

If you ultimately want to get the 43, go with the lease takeover unless you are ok waiting 3 yrs (RDX lease). Either way, the 300 nor the RDX will drive like your X4. We test drove most every small/mid-size SUV in Dec and although the RDX is nice (all due respect, it’s not a luxury CRV) it’s not up to German standards, IMO. And honestly, the BMW’s steering is much better than all the vehicles you mention and even better than the 43...again, IMO, and I really like our 43.
That said, go drive them and make up your own mind. Good luck.

I just wrapped up a lease on a 2016 RDX and absolutely loved it, however it had the powerful V6 normally aspirated engine. The new one is the inline turbo 4 like everyone is coming up with. My wife is on her 2nd C series and the dealer REALLY wanted our business so was pretty aggressive on the 2019 GLC 300 price. I would have been happy to just buy the RDX off lease but the payments would have been pretty high to pay it off in 24 months or so. I love my GLC except the sound quality of the Sirius radio. Did some research and there are several "versions" of the satellite radio, my RDX had the higher quality "XM" version, as does some of the higher end Mercedes models. The sound difference between to two units is major. This only refers to the satellite, not the CD or FM radio.

RDX vs GLC
We've owned MDX's for 15 years, so thought the redesigned 2019 RDX would be it. Then test drove it - the ride was just way too truck like, and the acceleration was jumpy. Although we know we would get used to the tech interface it wasn't a positive. The GLC, despite much lower horsepower, had enough umpfff and very smooth ride. Cabin luxury and options were no contest, GLC by far. That's just us (my wife and I) and we did go in thinking we would get the RDX. We also looked at the Lexus lines but couldn't get past exterior and interior styling that was, to us, awful. We did pay quite a premium on the GLC with all the options, so it's not a fair comparison $$ to the RDX.

I ended up taking over the GLC 300 4matic (non-coupe). I just couldn’t risk 3 years with the Acura driving around in a half baked car. I do like the interior of the Acura but the GLC looks so much better.

2020 GLC 300 Coupe
So funny you should ask, the GLC transferred over to my name today, waiting for MB Financial to mail me the registration documents and i can put plates and pick it up Tuesday. Ill post pictures and all options next week. Going to be a long 10 months until I can get into the 2020 GLC coupe, I can’t wait!

Just go to Mercedes on the web and Build Your Own. One of the better build interfaces and you can get detail on all the options. Loaded in our case means blue color, panorama roof, exterior lights and lighting, wheels, running boards, all the interior tech with upgraded stereo, navigation, heads up display, leather upholstery and ventilation, safety including active driver assist (main reason we upgraded and ordered the car as this is a relatively rare option), parking assist.
