Recommendations on extended warranty
I have a 2017 GLC300 with about 1 year left on my warranty and was wondering what your guys' thoughts were on obtaining an extended warranty. This is my first Mercedes so wasn't sure if I should stick to the don't own a German vehicle out of warranty. The vehicle has about 28k miles and I plan to keep the vehicle for another 2 years at least.

I just picked up a 2016 GLC300 that started the CPO warranty that same day. Just coincidence that I took ownership exactly 4 years to the day that the original owner did.
In any case, the quote for an additional 2 years of CPO warranty was $2895. I turned it down. If this car is in the shop more than twice for warranty repairs in the next year, I'll get rid of it. And if it starts costing me nearly $3k in the years after that, I'll dump it then as well. I've only had one car, a 2001 740iL, that needed that level of repairs. That car, as much as a I loved it, was a garage queen. I won't go through that again. But the other 5 cars I've bought through this dealership have been mostly trouble free after the warranty ran out. That said, I'm now a low mileage user. I put less than 10k/yr on my car, so things don't go wrong as quickly as they used to when I was driving 40k/yr. I could maybe justify the cost if I was still commuting 100 miles a day.

Whether or not to buy and extended warranty depends a lot on how many miles you plan to drive the car in the two years it covers. If you only drive 10,000 miles a year, paying $2895 or whatever for an extended warranty may not make sense because you are unlikely to incur that much in repair costs in two years. The more miles you intend to put on the car in those two years the more an extended warranty makes sense.
I am at the other extreme: my 2017 has now passed the 120,000 mile mark and still has over two years to go on the CPO warranty before the extended warranty kicks in, probably somewhere around 200,000 miles. I figure the CPO warranty has already saved me around $5000. If I decide not to keep the car that long, I think I can cancel the extended warranty and get a refund as long as I do it before the extended warranty kicks in. That's the case with extended warranties that begin after the new car warranty is up so it should be the same after a CPO.
Or, if you sell the car privately, my understanding is that the extended warranty can be transferred to the new owner, giving you a huge advantage over the dealer. Think about it: where else can a used car buyer get a car with perhaps well over 100.000 miles on it that comes with unlimited mileage coverage for up to two years? It boggles the mind, but it looks to me like that's how it works.

Agreed. High mileage users should consider the extended warranty. And I was just told by the sales manager that extended warranty costs would be returned in full if the car had not yet hit the warranty period, or pro-rated if it had. Or you could transfer the warranty to a new owner.

You guys have brought up a good point regarding mileage. We will probably put less than 10k km on it per year going forward so the extended warranty might not be as worth it. The idea came about when the service advisor suggested it as something to think of since I'm approaching 80k km.

Can you purchase the extended warranty at any time or does it need to be at the time of purchases? I'm close to pulling the trigger on a GLC CPO so I want to make sure I have things covered before going into the negotiations.

I bought my CPO Friday and she came down only $300. She said it would go up only 15% if I waited 2y before the CPO ran out. I am going to email a few different dealerships mentioned on this site and see if I can get a better deal

Dan, his quote was $1000 less than the dealership I went to! Can you take to any MB? And it’s the warranty after the current CPO runs out? Bumper to bumper ?

You are extending the current CPO with 1 or 2 years + unlimited miles.
CPO is not bumper to bumper, please see attached what it covers.
