The opening of air intake plastic is not that hard to unlatch. Once it is out, it would be pretty easy for next time.

The hard part is to take out (and put back) the oil filter as the room is so tight. It took me maybe 5-10 mins to get it out. But other than that, the whole thing to change oil is still pretty easy.

I got to think you are thin framed. I am not overly, let's say robust, but I almost could not breath under the car when I slid underneath. But as you noted its easier than draggin out a jack and stands. Good post.

I did the oil change a year ago, and I am about to do the 2nd year. However, I can't figure out what this guy is doing with that stick? First off, there's a lot of editing in this video that I think makes it close to useless. It's clearly not meant to teach anything. I mean, how did poking a stick in there undo the threads of the housing? And why wasn't the filter on the housing when he took it off? And how did the filter housing magically get back in there?

I won't be using this video.

I guess the takeaway from the video is we can push the tube in front of the filter to make some room hopefully.

On a related note, I was disappointed to get the same deer in the headlights look from the parts guy counter when asking for the correct oil for my GLC300, 229.51 or .229.52. It's two years since I have had this car and they still don't know Mercedes changed the spec, they still don't stock the new spec, and they still just say, "take it or leave it this is what we put in all the cars."

Fortunately, I was able to buy the right oil (229.52) on Amazon.

Dealers are clueless, almost without exception. Three dealers I visited or called didn't know the correct oil for the axles and transfer case on my W166.

Just did the oil and filter change.

No stick needed. Just use one hand to move the flexible hose in front of the filter toward the radiator and the other hand to remove the filter housing. The filter housing should definitely come out with the filter still attached.

FYI Reset from abacnus works for 2021 GLC 43. Thanks! (and I didn't have to stand on my head and rub my tummy to make it work!)

hope this thread helps diy-ers. I also need to check back this thread when preparing for 2nd yrs oil change.

I am thinking to lift up the car from the rear center jack point by floor jack while draining the oil with front wheels on ramps, hopefully that would drain more dirt out. Anyone tried that? Pl. let me know.

PS: that is bad idea, actually, forget that. When lift up the car by floor jack, it would actually pull the car backwards!

i wait till all oil almost drained and just pour about .5L of new oil in with drain plug opened It just pushes the old oil out, could be a waste but I like to think it does work

I agree with this. I changed the oil last weekend. The only thing I can think of adding is having shop towels ready to catch drips and inadvertent contact with surroundings.

Perhaps jack the front and put on jack stands then jack the rear and put on jack stands as well? Need floor jack, 4 jack stands and 4 adapters to fit into lift point wells. No ramps. Rotate the tires and inspect the brakes while you have everything revealed.

I am thinking to put the car on jack stands for both left and right jack points but right side higher, maybe by a floor jack, as the oil drain is from right to left.

This is how much oil left after I used vacuum extractor. Why bother with jacks? Especially knowing filter in on top. 2020 GLC300 M264 engine oil change - DIY getting ready-photo56.jpg

again, the facelift model (since 2020) does NOT have an oil dipstick anymore.

Can we use vacuum extractor via the hole of the oil filter actually? sounds like you are talking about that?

Wow, sorry missed 2020. Sometimes manufacturers keep the tube with cup. Maybe it's there but short tube.

I think there is no way to get oil via filter hole, all oil is in the pan and before the filter there is an oil pump I think. So no way.

Be aware of unbalanced loads on the jackstands and adapter combo. You lift point may not be stable.

did the 2nd year oil change and updated with some photos above.

Have a new finding for the step to put back the oil filter(as that is the hardest step imo). It is the tab on the filter blocking its way in.

see post #19 https://mbworld.org/forums/glc-class...ml#post8175337 with some pictures.

According to this, noticed that the drain screw torque should be 40 Nm (30 ft-lbs), not 30 Nm. The top post is updated.
