Hi folks, I recently joined the Mercedes club and I'm a sucker for some cool interior lighting. I got the 2019 GLC 300 Coupe and just learned that the newer (2020+ I think) models have pretty awesome ambient LED lighting (see below) on the interior around the cockpit. Does anyone know if it is possible to retrofit this lighting for my 2019 model? If not, has anyone had any experience with aftermarket/third-party lighting systems that work well and don't look cheap or tacky?
I have the same '19 coupe without the ambient lighting. The pre-facelift (2019 and lower) came with an optional 3-color ambient light package - where as the 2020 and newer get the full 64 (i think) color lighting option.
In Canada - the ambient lighting could only be added with the Premium Plus package. I didnt go for it as the cost for the whole package wasnt worth it for what I was getting (to me at least).
Regarding retrofitting - I would say that it CAN be done. There is a shop locally in Toronto, Canada that offers to perform the full retrofit of the ambient lighting package for somewhere in the ballpark of $800.00/CAD. So I would assume there should be shops near you that can offer the same service.

Good luck
Wow, I did not know that pre-facelift models also had an optional lighting package. That bodes well for the retrofit! I will call around some local shops and share an update here if I learn anything.
For your reference - even though im in Canada - when I was ordering mine - I was able to get my hands on the 'Whats New' document from MB-USA about the GLC Coupe MY19. I think I got it from this forum.
Below is the screen shot of the page where it confirms that you guys in the States had the choice to add the Ambient Lighting as a stand-alone option. We didnt get that option.
Quick update here, I got in touch with a local electronics shop (recommended by M-B dealership) and they said they will gladly install aftermarket lighting, but it would not be OEM. The technician said the car would have to be built with a harness that supports the lighting in order to simply install the OEM lighting parts. They sent images of other installs they've done. Looks pretty much the same as the factory lighting. However, the technician wasn't sure if they'd be able to integrate it into the car's operating system and might need to wire it to the rear-view mirror controls, or possibly bluetooth controls. However, they said they have never performed the modification on a 2019 model and it might be possible. I will probably decline the install if they can't fully integrate it. Will update again when I hear back.
Hi Brandon, I have the same MB 2019 GLC 300 without ambient lighting. Instead my Vin# showed I have ambient illumination? #611. Do you know what is that and if I can activate? I like the ambient lighting too but I haven't seen where it is possible to add. Thanks so much.
