GLC 350e X253, 2017 electric malfunction?
I hope someone will be kind enough to assist me regarding my 2017 GLC 350e X253. The dealer here in Iceland (Askja) has not been able to solve my problem to this moment. Dealer has been weary helpful regarding this matter but they seem not to be able to solve the problem. The problem is as follows: When vehicle changes from electric drive to combustion engine drive the display on the dash shows gears and word Malfunction. A code P06E900 shows referring to starter problem. The starter has been removed and tested at a starter repair shop for performance under load and all ok. After the malfunction light shows up the vehicle dose not perform stop/start function but drives normal. There is also another code showing U301700 battery management system (BMS) The dealer stated that this code is not related to the problem. I hope you can help me solve this matter or provide additional testing. I know it is difficult to repair through email put please give it a try.
Best regards, Stefan Kristjansson

My best guess is your main battery is malfunctioning or needs a good overnight charge. I presume you have a 12v main battery for starting and it is AGM type manuf.
I have found a lot of error messaged and dash info can be traced back to a battery that is failing or a battery that is under critical level from insufficient long drives,
The GLC management system tends to shut down various features, generating strange issues and error codes.
A simple approach would to fully charge battery with an intelligent charger set to the correct battery type in your car.
Your battery is reaching end of life based on age of 2017. If you replace try fitting one with max RC, CCC rating and Amp Hr status to give you better performance and life.
Let us know how you get on, good luck.

Thx. What is meant by RC and CCC?
Regarding these batteries, are they unique? If so how important is that? Are some owners just putting in standard batteries?

Alternator will never charge at a high rate to fully charge battery.
Repco regularly have CTEK chargers on special. The 5.0 amp unit is intelligent, around $99.00 and can be set to charge normal, and AGM built batteries. Allow afternoon and overnight charge to optimise, it has safety built in so you can leave it connected to battery whilst in car for months at a time without damaging car or battery.
This is a must these days with short trips, COVID lockdowns and the increasing number of ECU in cars causing current drain – even more so if you have dash cams fitted.
We now regularly charge both our standard battery and AGM batteries. Some car Brands have an EFM battery fitted from factory, so charge setting is NOT AGM, but standard. EFM batteries are like AGM, but a cheaper build.
There are some good battery sites that explain different build and performance of standard, EFM and AGM.
I cannot recommend Highly enough the CTEK and regular charging of modern car batteries, you can leave battery in car, fully connected. Just connect to red positive post in engine bay and the narrow negative post to charge battery and set it to the type of battery fitted to your car.
AGM batteries are no longer unique, with many manuf of cars fitting them for the stop/start feature.
Any battery manuf site will have a section explaining battery build and RC, CCC rating. Usually you are restricted by the width and height of your battery space, so you select the biggest capacity avail to fit that space. You can buy from many battery brands that will be suitable, but choose same build state, like AGM if your original battery is AGM.
Some Brands need the Dealer or battery seller to reset, via on board computer, the battery specs to allow suitable charging rates to max life of battery. CCC from memory is cold cranking capacity.
Good luck.

Not sure of Brands in USA / California.
Ask MB how much for an OEM and go online and search some local auto stores that sell batteries. Look for one at a reasonable price, but longest warranty. Here some batteries have 3 or maybe 4 years. Look under plastic shroud on front left of car as you face windscreen in front of car. There you will see part number, Amp Hr, RC and CCC ratings as well as type, ie, AGM. That is a good start.
