How would I tell if a 2017 GLC for sale on like has Apple Carplay?

I believe smartphone integration was only first made available for model year 2018 and onwards for the GLC.

It won't have CarPlay. As said above, MB came out with the Smartphone Integration Package in 2018 for the C and GLC, but it was not available with the Multimedia Package.

"Smartphone Integration – Apple CarPlayTM and Android Auto
Requires Smartphone Integration Package (868) Not available with Multimedia Package (320)

Smartphone Integration became standard in the USA with the latest COMAND system for the C Class MY2019+ and with MBUX for the GLC MY2020+.

Oh well, there’s an aftermarket dongle for $300 I believe. Thanks for the responses.

Found this in another thread that other forum members are discussing: (edit: included the link to the thread) https://mbworld.org/forums/glc-class...y-adapter.html
https://carplaysmartbox.com/products...0-e350-s-class (according to the thread, use "BENZ" for 20% off for this one)
https://www.crutchfield.com/S-awwvaS...Interface.html (no promo code as I am aware for this one, if that matters)
Not sure if it is either is good as never personally used it, not as seamless as enabling smartphone integration via the OBD dongle but advantage is that it doesn't actually modify the car unlike the OBD method (although it is likely reversible if that is your concern).

Really my concern is only that it's doable. My daughter started looking at brand new Jeep Wranglers because the used car market has been so crazy, and pretty much every new car has Apple/Android integration. I quite seriously dislike and know very little about any cars other than MBs so I, of course, find myself looking at GLCs for her. The crazy used car prices are softening a little at this point, but maybe not enough to look at 2018 models (or maybe so; I'll start another search, lol). Whether it's a new OEM HU or some kind of aftermarket solution, I just want to know it can be done.

If has Comand, no way
If has Audio 20, may have the 154 Option Code and than Carplay can be officially enabled.

I see, fair enough. If you find a 2017 you like you could always consider those options suggested by other forum members or that method you mentioned yourself using the OBD module, but you should always send your VIN over to the OBD enabler module seller to confirm if their product works on the vehicle before going ahead and purchasing the vehicle if smartphone integration can be a deal breaker for you if you don't have it.

Just for clarification the ODB dongle is not an option for the pre-FL C/GLC as the Smartphone integration isn't dormant just waiting to be enabled on these cars. It was an option on other models, and is an option on newer models with COMAND 5.5 and MBUX where the smartphone integration isn't standard, but can be enabled via coding. With MBUX in markets where the Mercedes me store has been rolled out it can also be added via an online purchase through the app, but all this is not an option on a 2017. For the C/GLC it requires opening up the center console and installing a third-party module and splice into the existing harness.

Well in that case OP, get one of those smart boxes suggested by others instead.

she seemed satisfied that she could play the music on her iPhone, both via the USB connection and Bluetooth, so the issue may be moot, but you are saying that even if the 2017 GLC300 we bought yesterday shows COMAND APS NTG5.5 on the datacard the dongle is a no-go and the splicing is the only way, right?

Interesting, though the 2017 W166 is unlikely to end up in my fleet. I am shopping for a W166 ML-series, and I did take a look at some 2016 GLEs for sale; they were more than I want to spend on this vehicle but I found it interesting they were only $1000-$2000 more than the 2016 GLCs that I was looking at, when they were like +$10,000 when new!

Right. The GLC was upgraded to MBUX with MY2020. Before that it had NTG 5.1 I think it was, with bits of NTG 5.5. Never really understood the hybrid version they did there. Full NTG 5.5 is wide screen and the UI is similar to MBUX like shown below.
