For US subscribers, MB will give a discount for a multi-year Mercedes Me renewal. You have to call and ask to get the price. I have done this a couple of times for our 2017. There are a some services that an are nice to have, but the emergency crash reporting/assistance are the must-have features in my opinion.

Agree, unfortunately MB is one of the worst in taking care of older cars by updating software, much less updating the maps.
