Anyone pay to yearly subscription MercedesMe App services after 3 years of free use?

Hi,

My 3 years of free use of the app ended yesterday. I am surprised and disappointed to learn that I need to pay approx $250 CAD yearly yearly subscription to continue use most of the services afterwards... Although most are for displaying info only, others like remote start and lock/unlock are useful and I use it a lot. Other services like online map update and live traffic are some that I dont care about. Have anyone actually paid to continue use? Is it worth it for me to pay to continue use of the following three services in bold?

Connect+ Services
14 services

• Geofencing
• Vehicle Tracker
• Speed Alert
• Weather map
• Car-to-X Communication
Remote Engine Start
• Local Search
• Live Traffic Information
• Valet Protect & Curfew Minder
• Weather forecast
• Online Map Update
• Personalization
Remote Door Lock & Unlock
Vehicle Locator

Only you can answer that for yourself. You can renew a-la-carte only the services you use, and not the ones you don't use and don't care for. I renewed almost everything except for remote engine start as I used it like twice in three years, and mostly just out of curiosity. So the yearly subscription cost depends on which and how many services you renew. With some of MB's competitors you have to subscribe to all or nothing. It's pretty standard to pay for online services unless they are funded by other means such as advertising and selling your data. There's no free lunch. There are ongoing operating costs to provide these services. Would you prefer MB offered them for free and instead sell your whereabouts and habits to advertisers, because that's what Google is doing to offer "free" Google Maps etc.?

I chose a-la-cart on my 2017 a few months ago. Did they send you different e-mails for each group of services? I got five e-mails total, all for different groups.

Where are you located? At least here in the USA to get the three services you are interested in, you only need to subscribe to Vehicle Setup ($15/year), Remote Engine Start ($35/year) and Vehicle Monitoring ($15/year), so that's $65/year. If you also want Stolen Vehicle Assistance, that's another $25/year.

Check the Canadian store. I only got one email, too, because the services all expire on the same date. It doesn't send out an email for each service.

Ok, I found the Canadian store. Yeah, looks like in Canada it's all or nothing. There's only one package called Connect+ Services as far as I can see. In the USA as said, the services are split over several packages, so you can renew all of them or only the ones that contain the services you want. For example for my car I can choose from 7 packages, not all packages apply to all cars. For example they have specific packages for the EV models that give discounted charging rates and such.

Thanks for the confirmation. That is too bad. I use remote start in winter months. I use the lock/unlock function often too.

While having the live traffic info would be nice to get real time navigation assistance, I am not willing to pay such a high amount for it, I only use the remote lock/unlock. Did you try going through the Mercedes Me app? On my App, it lets me pick and choose which services to renew.

A related question to All, I think the annual online map update is $50/mo. in the US. Do you know if one could skip a couple of years of subscription and then renew? Would that still be same annual renewal price or would there be a catchup cost.

No, there's no catchup cost. The subscription is for one year of updates, whatever map updates will come out during that year is what you get.

I think it can be done with the App on your phone too, but I use the website and my laptop to do it. Go to mbusa.com and log into your Mercedes Me connect account, Click on "Access Connect Features", select "go to my vehicle", select "manage services", and click on "orderable services" to select which option(s) to renew. I will follow up with some screen captures to help find the pages easier.

I paid for renewal of Mercedes Me (older version, not the Me Connect) and I think it was around $150 a year for basic and then there was a more expensive one. Looks like the newer one has better options, or perhaps they recently changed the options available in general (I think renewed about 1.5 years ago or so).

As of June 2023, you can no longer purchase services A' la carte and have to purchase the entire Mercedes Me services for $150 a year. I used to pay 15$ each for Vehicle Setup and Monitoring. Now I have to pay $150 for services that I do not use or my car does not support. I will cancel everything and live without and never buy another MB again! Tell me if you feel the same way.

I did pay to renew on my E450 once my subscription to the initially included services expired, I agree with you conceptually, however, MB is not the only manufacturer doing this, I pay for additional connected services on my BMW as well and perhaps Audi and others do the same. I hope people continue pushing back so the manufacturers stop these subscription-based money-making practices or at least stop them from expanding it to other functions (i.e. BMW trying to charge for seat heater that failed, and now I am told my Highway Assist functionality will expire in 8 years).

I just this month subscribed to all the services for a 2022 purchased non-CPO.
I much prefer the in-car maps to Apple CarPlay/Google maps.
Cost for me was $15/mo or $150/year.
This is the same that I had been paying BMW.

I don't see a-la-carte option in US. It shows yearly $150 or monthly $15.
Monthly plan $15 is also greyed out. unable to add to cart. I contacted Connect support and they informed that monthly option is no longer available. only $150 yearly option.

Does anyone is US has the same problem?
