can I mount wider tires?

can I mount wider tires on my 2022 GLC300 4matic? I've done some googling, and reading and seems like it MIGHT work just fine or scrape in hard turns.... wondering if anyone here has actully added wider tires?

I have 235/55 19 and thinking I could go 245/50 19 for a more planted look and feel.

any one put on wider tires safely?

I had the same size tire as you and I went with wider wheels (with different offset) and tires, no issues at all, no rubbing, nothing! Looks much nicer as well and gives the vehicle a nicer, more aggressive stance (IMO)

2018 GLC300 4Matic:
- 8.5x19 with offset 32

- 255/50 R19 Michelin Defender LTX M+S all around.

Very cool. But can I put them on my stock rims? I'm not sure how wide the rims are. Didn't want to buy new rims, just mount wider tires. I know TOO wide obviously won't work on basic rims, wonder if just a little wider could work?

Thanks.

The GLC has the following OEM set up: 235/55 R19 with 19x8 ET38 rims

I pulled the following of off the internet:

What Is the Widest Tire On 8 Inch Rim?
The widest tire you can fit perfectly on an 8-inch rim while remaining safe is the 245 tire.
Any tire size wider than this will make the tread of the tire curve. Why? Because your vehicle’s weight will all be on the center of the tread. Also, none of the weight will be on the sidewall of the tire, and that’s wrong.

With that said, looks to me like that a 245 wide tire will work.

Hope this helps.

wow that's awesome info! Thanks for finding that all for me. much appreciated! I suppose the tire place would also decide to or not to because they don't want to create potential safety hazards they might get blamed for. thanks again

You are very welcome. I am pretty sure that you will have plenty of clearance in order to mount one size wider tire.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Wheels are pretty flush and I personally would not fit spacers, but too each their own.

Sorry, that I do no longer remember, as this was 2 years ago.

Take your original wheel off and measure how far your bolt sticks out on the back. Then use the new wheel and do the same and you can determine if it is the same distance or if you need longer bolts.

Would counting the turns, or thread engagement, be sufficient?

Does not appear to be as accurate to me, not sure. I always measure distance.
