2019 GLC 300 Coupe Cam Shaft Gone Bad

Hi, I'm new on this forum. I just wanted to know if I am justified in being upset that I need to spend $5000 to repair a cam shaft on a car with under 80,000 miles on it. Serviced regularly.
I reached out to an executive referral manager from corporate and have not received one call back after opening a case. I called every day for a week. Crickets. The dealership has now taken my loaner vehicle back and given me my car back, advising me not to drive it. I realized something was wrong when it hesitated when I tried to start it. This is probably my 6th Benz, so I am (was) loyal to the brand. Anyone else had this go wrong with their car, or had the same experience with corporate? I'm now in the position of having to trade it in as is, or lay out a big sum of $.

And what exactly is a problem?
Did dealer check cylinders for compression and leaks?
