2020 GLC 300 Engine Issues

I recently brought my 2020 GLC 300 car to the MB dealer and have done all the regular scheduled maintenace included my 60,000 mile service in April. A few weeks later, the car was sputtering and vibrating so I called the dealer and he said that it was probably bad gas and not to worry. Three weeks later it happened again and we took it into the dealer only to find out it had a cracked piston and they now want $11000 to repair the engine. My wife is freaking out and is upset that a car of this quality has a major issue after only 3.5 years. We just paid $26k off the lease!!

What do we do next? They are trying to get us into a new car and offer us a deal but I know that is not going to be the best route. I can try to find a whole replacement engine used cheaper or take it to another garage to have a second opinion.

Any thoughts here?

Ask for goodwill repair depending on when the warranty expired. It is kind of a common issue for the M274 to develop a cracked cylinder, I am surprised the M264 engine the facelift GLC 300 has also got this cracked cylinder issue.

Welcome! Sorry to hear of the experience. Sadly, this is very common for this engine. Read the X253 and X254 sections of this site and you will see many posts on cracked pistons for the M274 and M264 2.0L 4-cylinder engines.

This is not good, I'm sorry to hear about this. When did the warranty expire? It would be cheaper to purchase an extended 100k mile warranty? I recently had my Cylinder head replaced with my 2021 GLC, I hope you can get this issue resolved, I think total repair costs at MB for mine were totaling $16k.
