rear hatch toe kick opening feature

Our 2023 GlC should have the toe kick opening feature but it does not seem to work. I have one on my E class so I know the technique. I wonder if this is one of those ran out of chip features that left it omitted ?. We do have the factory installed hitch if this makes any difference

I have the hitch as well (shocked a 1 1/4 class 2 hitch only comes with a RV connector and not a 4 pin). Your window sticker should show a credit if you don’t have the feature. Mine had a credit for enhanced ambient lighting, which I am not at all happy about since many non-customer ordered inventory got it. Anyway, back to the toe kick - I’ve found mine works intermittently. I’ve read the manual and know the documented procedure. I looked underneath and see the sensor in the center a few inches back from the hitch. When it works, it seems to work better if I kick about 8” right or left of center. I had it at the dealer yesterday for a number of issues, including this, and they said it is functioning properly.

The earliest built GLCs, say to around serial number 18000 or 20000, are missing the kick to open. You rwindow sticker will have code D9B credit for missing standard p17/871/HANDS FREE ACCESS and $100 off. If you don't have that, you have the kick to open trunk. If you have the trailer hitch, it may be in a slightly different spot.

Thank you. I do not see any credit on my window sticker. I'll play around with this feature and see if I can get it to work

I just tried it and with a bit of back & fourth it worked. I must be doing something a bit wrong as is not that repeatable

Not repeatable for sure! I know I have it cause the rear hatch has slammed me in the head when removing my golf clubs from the boot. 60% of the time, it works every time!

Glad it’s not just me! That’s pretty much my experience as well.

So, it doesn’t work when you want it to but when you don’t want it to work, it reminds you that you have the feature. I can’t say I’m surprised, many of my features work on their own schedule. Ugh.

It does come down fast.

Same here and it’s was the same on MY17 & 20. If it doesn’t work on the second try the handle works every time. This feature has been around for quite some time but I guess the engineers have more pressing features to perfect.

If I remember right, you don’t have the hitch on your 2023, correct? I was thinking maybe it was an issue related to the hitch but it sounds like that isn’t the case.

Correct no hitch on any year I had. They have the keyless door handle & key fob open/close working perfectly but the kick to open feature not so much!

I own Mercedes and BMW as well. Any reason you just didn't go w/the X3? Was it too "dated"?
Many are scrambling to buy the MY24 as it represents the last of the "buttoned" generation!

:-)
My X3 is a diesel. I wanted a petrol Hybrid with a deecent range in full electric (over 100 km) ==> GLC 300e.
As you say, the X3 looks "old" (it's only 3 years old)
