I’m currently waiting on a Coupe that I ordered a month ago. I think I still have a small window to make any changes and the only one I’m stuck on is whether or not to add the Brushed Aluminum Running Boards (846). Although I really like the look, I had dismissed them because I heard about dirt getting on legs, having to stretch past them, etc. However, I hadn’t really focused on what you get otherwise, and now that I’m taking a deeper look I’m not really impressed. For comparison, every image I see out there has either the running boards (pic #1) or without (pic #2).
It looks like the running boards are not really much wider, if at all, than the black plastic that you get otherwise, does anyone have any info on this? I plan to make a trip to the dealer (40 mins. away) to compare firsthand but thought I’d check here in the meantime. For those that have running boards do you have any complaints? And for those that don’t, any regrets? I really do like the look of the running boards, just want to make sure they won’t turn out to be annoying enough to offset that. I’m new to Mercedes and this forum so thanks for any help.

So my GLC 300 no running boards was at the dealer getting a tail light fix and the gave me a $140K EQS 580 full electric SUV w running boards they seem to get in the way when existing and entering the EQS
I was thinking of putting them on my GLC this changed my mind. I have a 2021 F150 FX4 as my daily driver and running boards are a must or you fall out exiting the truck. and the are the auto up and down.
I know it's a look thing they are almost too small to get a foot on. and with all the snow you get up there may be trouble.
IMO MY GLC

Those were some of my concerns going into this. I spoke with my wife who is 5’ and she likes the look a lot better as well and said she could live with it. I went ahead and added it to the build. Maybe if I got in and out of the car a bunch of times each day it might get to me, but typically my car sits in the garage most of the week and we go for long drives on the weekend. Thanks for the response. Your car looks nice by the way, same color I’m getting.
I think it depends on the color of the car and whether or not you have the night package. Coupe and SUV are different as well.
For instance, my black car with the night package would look strange with shiny running boards, IMO.
But on a gray car with chrome window trim, the running boards accentuate the lines of the car.
I don't like their function, but their look is a matter of personal taste.
I ordered a Cirrus Silver model with the night package. I had wanted to order gray but the graphite gray available is too close to black. I’m also getting these wheels which I think the running boards will look nice with and complete the package. The more I looked at the black plastic alternative I felt like I had to go with the running boards.

Must have for me. Looks great with any color (had selenite grey x253 and recently upgraded to the white x254).
