Automatic Lane Change Assist

Apparently new for 2024 is Automatic Lane Change assist. It’s part of the driver assistance package and will automatically change lanes (without using the turn signal) if the car in front of you is driving slower than the speed you have your distronic cruise control set and the lane next to you is clear. I’m assuming it’s available in the US.

I have a 2023 GLC and that option is not available. It’s irritating that MB doesn’t update the software on the 2023’s to do the same thing. I had my car serviced yesterday, the recall for the fuse box done, and another software update.

I have a car less than a year old that is now “outdated”.

I guess eventually someplace like RJ Automotive that does coding will be able to change it.

I think these updates should be given to existing customers. I don’t think anything else is involved from a hardware standpoint.

Yes, can confirm that feature is available in the US. It works quite well.

Do you have to keep your hand touching the steering wheel for it to work?

Yes It's a great feature. I have it on my GLS but not on my GLC. Only use it on long trips. Sometimes it's too slow changing lanes and I override it. You have to keep your hands on the steering wheel. It will give you reminders to do so. As far as RJ auto., I am still waiting for them to get back to me. I have the retrofit kit for Distronic plus, but coding is not available for MBUX1 and MBUX2 as of yet.

The other cool feature is that if you move the turn signal left or right, to, but not past, the first stop, the car will do the automatic lane change without your steering intervention.

My 23 GLC Pinnacle has it and I use it too. You have to be doing 45 mph or more to change lanes. Just tap the turn signal and it will change lanes. If there is a vehicle too close it will set off a warning and will change after the vehicle passes.

It would be nice if they did a software update. Thinking it would take some getting use too if the lane change was automatically started.

Not too much. You get an audible warning when it starts to change lanes And if you resist the steering wheel turning, it quickly aborts the lane change. What I haven't figured out is that sometimes it decides not to do automatic lane changes, for no reason that I can see; the road is clear, traffic light, but the car makes you initiate the lane change. Would be interested if anyone understands the decision making process.

If that 45 mph min speed is true, then you may have been trying to do auto lane change towards an exit but just slowed beyond the 45 mph threshold.
