Hatch warning?

While loading some groceries I had the hatch come down and hit me in the head. Apparentally, I had inadvertently swung my foot under the rear of the car. Okay,
fine, the hatch responded like its supposed to. But, no audible alert like my
out-going GLK350. It made a ding noise when the hatch was in motion. Big
oversight, I think. 🤔

That is strange, it definitely should make a noise when using the easy pack feature (basically MB's term for the foot activated tailgate release feature). The only time when it doesn't make a noise is when you hit the physical button.

I don't think there's a warning when closing the trunk/gate with the foot. I don't recall ever hearing something on my car or any of the loaners. It's a somewhat common issue on SUVs and wagons as one has to reach in further to load and unload and may swing their foot inadvertently in a matter that triggers the function. It's mentioned in the owner's manual. Keep the key fob away from the rear of the vehicle if you are loading/unloading. Then it won't do this.
