Center Console Change

I ordered the Metal Weave Center Console, but when my car showed up it had the awful Piano Black plastic. I was a little upset to say the least. The good news is my dealer ordered a replacement and installed it today. It is SO much better than the Piano Black. It is a no-cost option, so I am surprised more people don't order it. Here are some photos:

I understand your frustration. The dealer took care of everything, so I don't know the part number. Strangely, there was no paperwork involved in the work he did. But it shouldn't be too hard to get the part number. I'm sure it will not be cheap, but well worth it. It makes such a difference. I don't know why Mercedes puts in that crap black plastic. It seems like 99% of the cars come from the factory that way. All I can say is it makes a HUGE difference. Good luck...

It's nice the dealership honoured your original spec. The configurator doesn't allow you to spec the Flowing Lines Radiant Black Wood trim with the Metal Weave centre console only the piano black. That is why the factory made it with the piano black console originally. I really wanted the Brown Ash Wood trim so unfortunately piano black was my only option but I ended up finding a Sienna Brown leather cover for it which matches the Sienna Brown nappa leather seats that I chose.

I'm not sure why you can't spec Flowing Lines Radiant Black Wood trim with the Metal Weave center console. As you can see from my photos, it matches extremely well. Much better that the black plastic. I specked it out on the build web site. It was also on my official dealer build sheet.

site. Here it is on the web site, and on my official dealer build sheet:

Interesting, that is not the same for the Canadian configurator (image below). You can only get metal weave centre console with metal weave trim or anthracite open pore trim. Both metal weave and piano black are plastic to my understanding but what I hate the most about the piano black is that it's a fingerprint magnet.Call me old-school but I love the would trims. Very happy with the Brown Ashwood trim. I just wish it was satin finish and extended to the centre console like they did on the previous GLC model.Heres some pics of what I ended up doing. The centre console cover is a perfect colour match but the leather grain is slightly different so I'm on the lookout for one that's a better match.

That leather looks nice. My plan B was to find some kind of wrap to cover up the black plastic. I agree about the shiny wood. I don't know why Mercedes does that. In my 2015 C-Class I made sure to order open pore wood - which has no shine at all. And I love it. I wish I could have that in my GLC. Check this out:

Did you trim it yourself? Very nice.

I have the shiny black plus Ash and as with the touch screens, have a high quality microfibre cloth on hand to keep them super clean. Works really well.

2026 GLC300 4Matic (X254)
I wish my center console was not piano black, but no cars in the U.S. when I bought mine last fall had the wood I wanted up top without the piano black. And I wanted the "dry" gray wood up top. I bought a leather cover for the center console that looked great, but it was too big and it didn't let the floating button tray (hazards, camera, radio volume) work correctly. I have thought about those "stick on" covers that are flexible but they all ship from China so I don't know about shipping now. I don't want adhesives to mark up the (so far) pristine piano black. I bet MB will make a change for 2026 on that part. The E class has lovely options for the center console area that the GLC should be able to have, IMO.

I agree. I think I got the closest to what I want with the Natural Grain Black Wood and the Metal Weave center console. Even though the console is still shiny, it is WAY better than the black plastic. I wish it could be natural wood like on my C-Class, but non-the- less, I think it looks pretty good as you can see in the photos. I never understood why Mercedes puts shiny plastic or shiny wood in their cars.
