I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on my first Mercedes! I'm trying to decide whether to get the AMG-Line option on the GLC-300 SUV (in the US). As I understand it, the rear wheels go from an 8" rim 235/55-19 to a 9" rim 255/50-19 (I'm comparing only 19" options). In addition, the front brakes are upgraded somewhat, with larger floating rotors and larger brake pads. Inside, the seats have slightly larger bolsters, and it's unclear to me whether they are firmer. I'm not aware of any suspension differences with the AMG-Line regardless of what ChatGPT suggests, is this correct?
Can someone comment on the real-life difference when driving the car with/without the AMG-Line upgrades? Presumably the cornering would be a bit better, though maybe the larger rears would tend to create more understeer at the limit? And what about the ride quality - that's of high importance to me and the whole reason I'm going to Mercedes. I drive twisty, bumpy mountain roads routinely so am looking for the right balance of leaning in the corners versus soaking up the bumps, but also lots of freeway driving where road noise can be an issue. Finally, has anyone found the stock brakes lacking during spirited driving? Are the AMG-Line brakes a meaningful upgrade or would I need to go with an even beefier setup?
Two factors to consider in the tire suppleness are diameter/profile and speed rating.
Generally the more sidewall there is, the more supple the ride will be....
But the same diameter tire will be stiffer riding the higher the speed rating is. Then again, many of these cars have run-flats so they're pretty hard to begin with, even in H speed rating.
I doubt that increasing the rear tire width will materially change either the ride quality - because sidewall height should be the same if the wheel diameter is unchanged) or the understeering characteristic.
If you think you'll be using the brakes hard, that could be a good reason to get the bigger units (which, by the way, the GLC350e come with off the rack).
I had a loaner with this. I really liked the ride. It wasn't harsh at all just felt much more controlled than stock. Loved everything about the interior add ones except the split steering wheel. The body kit though I wasn't a fan. Actually made the vehicle too long to open the trunk in my garage and really gives the car some added mass in the front that the curbs and other low hanging vehicle stops will love.
I have a 2025 with the AMG line. Sorry I can't compare, but I am very happy with all the concerns you express. "understeer at the limit" - I can't imagine taking this SUV to the limit. It is not that kind of vehicle. I can say the noise level is quite low at all speeds. At first, I hated the seats, but after a short time I learned to love them. It is the most comfortable I have ever been in a car. Like most people I hate the touch control buttons on the steering wheel. They are basically unusable. Overall, I think the ride is great, and I am glad I chose the AMG line. Just make sure you don't order the piano black center console.
suspension is the same, no difference in ride quality. I was also considering amg package vs non-amg and chose non-amg.
Seats are almost the same, 2 things that threw me off in amg package: artificial engine sound from speakers and steering wheel. AMG Steering wheel looks cool, but with these touch buttons it is almost impossible to operate cruise control with AMG steering wheel without looking at it, it is less of a problem with non-amg one for me
For 2026 you can get "AMG Lite" package too. It has the AMG wheels but square set up which is nice. And keeps the "classic" bumper designs. And it has regular steering wheel. I've seen 2 or 3 already around here.

What is this artificial engine sound? I have never heard it. I looked everywhere in the settings and nothing. I searched the manual, and they don't mention it. I have seen some people mention it somewhere, but I don't think it is a thing.

That's whai I got.
Coming from a C300 with the full AMG package, here's what I prefer.
The AMG wheels that are not staggered in width make all tire issues easier.
I hated the AMG steering wheel and really prefer the standard one.
I like the chrome exterior trim better than the blackout trim.
I like that the bumpers and rocker panels are not dragging on the ground.
I like spending $1,800 vs. $3,450.
I do like the AMG star-pattern grill better but, I'll live.
The AMG has stitched MB-Tex on the dash and door tops where the AMG Lite has the standard soft-touch plastic finish; a subtle difference.
My AMG had a much better stereo but, that required the Exclusive package; another $2,200.
I was never disappointed in the smoothness and quietness of the AMG version.
As far as the seats, I do't see much difference. The standard seats are high quality.

LOL, all the things you don't like about the full package are the things I love. I have a 2025 GLC with the AMG package and night package. I thought I would hate the flat steering wheel, but now that I have used it, I love it. The stitched dash and door panels look SO good, IMO. Different strokes!
