Making My Ultimate Baby Mobile

Hey everyone....long time forum member here. I'm a huge Merc fan and have had the fortune of having a few over the years. My family is big on Mercedes too so maybe that's where I get it from. To make a long story short, I love cars (like all of us) and have a 2017 Nissan GTR that I bought new as my fun car (and only car). With a new bundle on the way (Due June 1), I wasn't sure if I wanted to give up my GTR so I have been looking for the right "Baby Mobile" for the last 6 months or so....mostly because deciding on the right vehicle and then negotiating the right deal can take months.

Cars I considered before landing on the GLC43 Coupe:
  • GLC63s Coupe (Actually almost bought this instead of the GTR but they wouldn't let me test drive it and I wasn't going to spend $100K on a car I can't test drive. To get this I would have had to sell my GTR)
  • GLC43 (Love the overall look, but honestly looks so tame and lackluster compared to the 63 that makes me drool every time I see one)
  • Porsche Macan GTS (Everyone in their mother has one and it looks the same as the Macan and Macan S, plus my neighbor who parks next to me has one and I want to be original)
  • Porsche Panamera (Always liked these...2019 GTS prices are still way too high and I would have had to sell the GTR. 2012/2013 I love the look of, but the driving height is so similar to the GTR it was like why bother)
  • '17 Maserati Levante (Insurance rates were ridiculous for a second car)
  • '14 Range Rover Sport (Insurance was also crazy high)
  • '19 Ford Edge ST (drove like an SUV and was so underpowered even with 335 HP, hella lotta features for the money tho and not too flashy)
Why I went with the 43?
  • I would have had to sell the GTR to get a 63
  • The GTR is still waaaay more fun to drive then the 63 IMHO
  • When I'm on baby duty, I can't drive in the same spirited fashion anyway and the 43 is surprising quick even in comfort mode.
  • I can change a few things to get the aggressive look I want that I like about the 63,

So what do I have planned?
  • Retrofit the 63s Night package Rear diffuser and tips
  • Red Calipers
  • Lowering Module
  • Black Panamericana Grill
  • 43 Night package front Splitter
  • 63s Replica Wheels
  • Front Air Dam Covers
  • 63 Replica Spoiler
Nothing insane planned, but I do plan on keeping the car for 7-10 years and eventually it will probably be the Mrs' main car.

This is my story...

Car was delivered three days ago...I negotiated free shipping, but forgot to ensure it was "closed" transport 🤦🏾‍♂️. They were delayed a week but it finally arrived dirtier than I ever imagined. There are also a few things I realized were missing and or/need repair.

Added to the "mod" list above:
  • Tint front windows
  • Add tonneau cover
  • Replace the silver cupholder trim
  • Add front and rear parking sensors (I was caught by surprise that a car with a backup camera, and four sensors in the front bumper actually doesn't have parking sensors...sure enough I checked the rear bumper and no sensors.)

Had the windows tinted at 35% with Suntek film. To be honest, I'm not sure what trim level these used if it was the Carbon or the Ceramic Tint...but I'm happy with the way it came out. 20% which I considered would have been too dark IMHO. I also had the calipers painted at the same shop. I definitely wish I powder-coated, which is what I thought they were going to do when they explained the process that they would have to disassemble the calipers. They did not disassemble and instead just sprayed. I honestly wouldn't recommend them or go to them for anything. I'm not even sure if they properly cleaned them before painting and still charged me as if they did. I'll have to see how they hold up and either order new calipers or get these ones powder-coated.

I ordered a 63S Night Package Rear Diffuser and exhaust tips for the build. One thing I didn't realize when I test drive the car was that even tho there is a rearview camera, there are no parking sensors. Super annoying for a vehicle with an MSRP in the 70s. Mind-boggling really. On Monday, Mid-City Engineering will install front and rear parking sensors with the diffuser.

I THINK I have all the correct pieces (some of which I've already put together).
  • Lower Trim Panel
  • Deflector Panel (w/o Tow)
  • Tailpipe Extenstion x 2 (w/ Night Package)
  • Deflector Shield
  • Diffuser (w/ Night Package)
  • Tailpipe Extention Bracket x 2

Annnnd. These Just came in from Italy. Wheels have been an ordeal with Coronavirus. Everything out of China has massive delays. I had to cancel my original order and order these from another Vendor out of Italy. I'm surprised they got here seeing as how the country is on lockdown.

I have Pirelli Scorpion Zero AS+ in 265 and 295 sizes so I'll have to see how it all fits together when mounted.

Before I mount, balance and get my alignment, I do want to find the ride height I'll be using most days. At the recommendation of others on the forum, I'll be using the Amazon/Ebay Lowering Module.

You could have just borrowed my 63s and given me the GTR...seems like a fair deal to me.

Your Amazon/Ebay Lowering Module is fancier than mine. Mine is just a plain blue module with no writing on it..My setting are listed on here somewhere, I found a good balance between low and not all that harsh...lol....

Hmmm, where. I looked for 4 months and couldn't find one that low much less with the options I wanted. Also insurance, maintenance, gas were factors combined with eventually this will be for the Mrs.

But please send links lol!

If you live in an area that has real-world roads anything beyond the low preset might be too much IMO
Good luck with it man.

Thank you! My CLA was so stiff it caused me to sell the car. The GTR is plush in comparison lol. And with the GLC43 in the low setting it's even more plush than the GTR. I'm guessing the 63 is much stiffer than the 43?

To be clear I meant the OBD2 Amazon lowering modules pre-set LOW-SETTING not MB's stock settings.

Yup put it in last night. Lowered 32mm. Then drove all over the city in Sport+ mode and it was plush lol...compared to my GTR is Normal mode.

I mean the 63 is a race car so I'm guessing the settings and dampers aren't stiffer which would create a harsher ride? Just a guess...because with the 43 it's stiff nice and soft at -32mm

Curious what those e-bay things look like on the front air-dam surrounds as you have a black car too.
I wanted to get them but thought they would get lost in the black color.
Post pix of your front end when you get a chance

Will post pics when they arrive and after install. IMHO the 43 front and rear are uninspiring and lack a certain aggression. The 63 front would be overkill on a car this slow so I'm hoping the winglets on the air dams will do the trick to make it look a little meaner.

0-60 in 4.3 seconds is rather rapid for an SUV weighing @ 4000lbs. Might not be GTR fast BUT slow, uh I would respectfully disagree.

I'm just trolling the 63 owners I literally (no joke) drive on Eco mode with Sport steering and sport+ damping and feel like I haul *** lol. The GTR is an insane rocket that I actually have to use two hands to drive.

I actually think the GLC 63s motor looks too sterile. The GLE 63s is how it should look. I loved my GLE but the GLC whips it in everything but size and comfort.
