The key thing to remember is that the dealer ordering guide isn't accurate. If your really want to answer this sort of question you need to go down to the dealership and build it with the configuration tool. Most Mercedes dealers will let you use their configurator which has the built in rules of what is and isn't allowed. I'm talking about the actual ordering configurator not some marketing tool.

Hence my comment about reaching out to my sales advisor to check on my 43 build to see if this is possible. This is an option that I would opt for if it is. I was providing my assumption in my post.

Can you let me know what he says? I'm really curious myself since I will be looking to order in the very near future.

I agree. I don't understand what Mercedes is thinking with it's push for Alcantara (Dynamica). Actually I do understand - they are cynically thinking of profits at the expense of quality.

This video calls this trend out.

Just got off the phone with him. L6J, the AMG performance steering wheel cannot be added to the 43, only to the 63. Can't say I'm surprised as it's what I expected.

Thanks, though that's super disappointing. That wheel looks fantastic, so I hope they add it for the facelift at least.

I have the heated wheel in the E350 at the moment; the heating option is great and the wheel looks relatively sporty, but I'm torn on whether to pick it again or the sport wheel when I decide to order a GLC43. If the L6J wheel was available it would be a no-brainer.

My wife's C300 has the same wheel that is the Sport Steering Wheel on the GLC43. It is a very nice wheel and quite thick. Much thicker than the heated wheel. Also if you want the AMG wheel it would be an easy thing to buy it aftermarket and swap it. They use the same airbag. The AMG wheel is not heated.

RWE is an aftermarket company or is that the wheel design?

I don't think it matters that much whether the wheels are forged or not, then again I personally put comfort above handling since I bought my 43 as DD and my weekend car takes care of the canyon driving itch

Thanks, I'll have to check it out myself but I generally don't like to modify (I know I'm in the minority but I like stuff factory stock, and it gives me less hassle trading in).

I might just switch up to the GLC63 for the steering wheel and 4Matic+, but I'll decide after a test drive.

Looking forward to seeing what you got. Also interested in delivery dates since the press releases are saying late 2017.

RWE is the wheel style shown on the car when unveiled at the New York Auto Show and every pic I've seen. I just have a problem with showing a car with 21" forged wheels and then the order guide states not available for the SUV. The wheels and the S-Model could be optional like on the Coupe. IMO MB is hamstringing the car by limiting stuff or trying to force the sale of the coupe.

Others will buy but not having those features makes me less likely to buy it.

I agree. There are several things that are annoying me:
1) No GLC63S SUV
2) No AMG Performance Seats
3) Limited interior options. I really wanted the designo saddle brown with white deviated diamond stitching, or designo red with black deviated diamond stitching and they don't offer either of these.
4) No Apple CarPlay if you get Multimedia Package

They do this hamstringing to try to get you to buy another one a couple of years from now when they upgrade the car. But a couple of years from now, I will get a different model.

It's sufficiently annoying that I'm almost tempted to buy a Porsche instead.

Ah okay. got it. Yeah, does seem like they are artificially limiting some options to the coupe to drive buyers to that. I also like the wagon more, and agree that keeping the S model coupe only is annoying.

For those that care Mercedes is saying the AMG Performance seats will be available for the 2018 GLC AMG models but "with a slight delay".

I don't know what they mean by slight delay.

I'm looking forward to the new 63S Coupe. To include the Drivers Assistance Package you must order the Multimedia Package. That seems to mean that you can't have the Smartphone Integration Package and the Drivers Assistance Package. Am I misunderstanding this?

From what I've seen with Mercedes delays, "slight delay" means around the end of the year. Smart phone integration is delayed until August or September, the DOG for the GLC43 quotes both months (???). I read a thing about Distronic being delayed on the CLAs until December a few years ago. If you can wait until the end of the year for production, I'd say to check the box; I don't think Mercedes would wait until the next year to add an option.

They estimate the build will be in August, however based on other orders in their pipeline, they don't want to commit until they get something official. The dealership indicated they have orders still in the pipeline that were placed in March, with no specific build date yet!
