Talking GETTING AMG GLC 43 COUPE WHAT TIRE SIZE?

Hi quick question for those living in North East or similar areas where snow falls.

I'm getting a AMG GLC 43 coupe but can't decide on whether to get 20 inch or 21. I want to hear from those living in the North East or similar areas where snow and potholes are common. Will the 21's survive or should I skip those amazing 21 and get the 20?

Thanks

If it was me I'd be getting 20" wheels. Considering the potholes up here, the uneven roads with constant construction and ridges, and the fact that you can much more easily get winter tires and all-season tires for the 20's and not as easily for the 21's, it's not even a contest.

I wanted the 21s too but the 20 is the more sensible decision. Doesn’t mean you can’t upgrade to a 21 summer set up later on.

If you are going to swap for winters, I’d do 21s from MB, and purchase aftermarket 20s with dedicated winter tires. That’s my plan.

I'm still on the fence about just getting the 21 size and take my chances cause the 21 look so much better on this coupe

At the dealer compared the 20 vs 21 and there is not much visual difference. Mine will have the 21's but I live in Houston where winter lasts 2-3 months and ice and snow is rare. If I lived in the NE the 20's would be better as there are all season tires available for them. As of today there are no A/S tires for the 21's.

There are no winter or AS tires available for this wheel fitment with the 21's. The 20's look just as good. Don't be a dumbass! If you live in the NE you should know better than to put little thin rubber band runflat tires on your ride.

If you go that route you better pony up for a separate set of Winter wheels and tire up front because you know you will need them.

The coupe looks like a fat chick wearing spandex. Buy the SUV if you need an SUV or buy the C43 coupe if you want a real coupe. The Bimmer and Merc Coupe U Vees look stupid and they carry all the weight and half the utility of a proper SUV.

Having a GLC coupe is not for everyone that is for sure but it doesn't mean you are just getting the GLC for its cargo capabilities.

I have ordered a 2019 GLC 43 coupe (and no I don't need an SUV) and it is exactly what I am looking for. Right now I am driving a 2013 C350 coupe and for the winters here in Ontario it is a bit to low, so I have opted to get a bit more ride height with about 60 more horsepower with the added bonus of more cargo space than my coupe. I am single so nobody rides in the back so the reduced headroom is also not a concern for me. There are many reasons someone might want to get the coupe version and NOT just because its an SUV. The coupes are also not as common as the regular GLC which I like.

For this thread I have ordered mine with 21' two tone rims but I am also getting a set of winter rims and tires which is the same thing I did for my C350 coupe.

So, I live in the Northeast and have the 21" rims/tires, but I also have a second car (front drive) to use in the winter. The 21"s were a must have for me as they look better than the 20"s, IMHO. That said, the 21's come with summer tires, so they are pretty worthless in the snow and are pretty hard at temps below 40 degrees, although I have driven on them below that temp....crabbing becomes an issue then. Roads in the Northeast are a disaster, especially in PA and NJ, but I have not had any issues, SO FAR, with potholes and when I have hit one, it feels like cotton compared to the RFT's I had on my Bimmer. Again, that said, you hit the right pothole and it will probably crack/break your rim because of the low-profile tires.

You can get A/S 21"s for the GLC...see here: https://mbworld.org/forums/glc43-glc...placement.html and that's the route I will probably go once my summer tires are worn out. You will have to go up a tire size in front and down in back to have A/S's work. My vote is for the 21"s, but you'll need a second set of wheels/tires for winter or burn through the summer tires that come with the GLC and replace with A/S's before winter. Good luck!

Don't know how it works in the US but in the UK if you fit tyres that are not authorised by MB for the car it is illegal and your insurance is void. In the UK MB have not authorised ANY all weather tyres for the 43 in any wheel size, 19,20 or 21 inch.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for. Someone living in the North East that can give me an honest opinion. I always have my wife's car that I can use if it gets to hectic with the snow. Even though I say NYC, I'm relocating to upstate NY so I'm guessing potholes only in my future when I come to the city to visit family and friends.

Nothing illegal or insurance voided like that in the US as far as I know...thank god. I guess a US MB dealer could give you grief if you have "non authorized" tires and something happens to say the suspension or wheel that you wanted covered under MB warranty. Doubt that would ever happen, though.
