Eco Start / stop sucks

Hi guys,

I just would like to say that this function sucks and I hate in my car. I am always switching it off every time I start the car.

I forgot once and was very suprised how it works. I did a quick race with other friends car and after few kms riding hard I stopped the car and the ECO start/stop funciton immediatelly turned off the engine, without letting the turbos and engine to cool down few minutes.

What do you think about that? Should not that system take into account also the conditions under the car was driven before and let its parts to cool down to prevent future problems with turbos and etc?? After hard ride which is followed by immediately turning your engine off, turbos can blow out no?

I will be always switching it off, I just forgot once...

It's garbage and the only reason it exists is to game EPA regulations. No customer in history ever asked for this crap. In my E63 I bought some unit from eBay that plugged into COMAND and disabled it. So far can't find anything for this car yet. On another thread somebody claims such a thing is available but hasn't given any proof (and Google turns up empty-handed).

That is the same guy I bought my E63 ECO off unit from a few years ago, and it worked well. However to install that I had to disassemble the dash, but now it looks like he can do this all through ODBII. Interesting. I emailed him to confirm VINs (GLC63/SLK55) and to make sure it won't conflict with any ECU tunes.

I believe the Ebay one is the same guy who offers the lowering module on the site here. Can’t confirm 100% legit as I haven’t used, but hopefully Stereo can post up any response he gets.

It will not blow out... If the car is overheating, it will let you know.
You can see the temperature in AMG page.
This feature is to save fuel about 1 MPH gas.

Good luck, guys! Also, I think the Ebay module will allow you to save your last Drive Mode Select setting, so when you get back in your vehicle and restart, it's in whatever mode you left it in when previously shutting down the vehicle. May want to confirm that though...a huge win-win, if that is included, or even available to add, IMO.

First of all, the auto off mode only works in the ECO or comfort drive mode. Why in the world would you be quick racing in any of these modes? You should be in sports or sports+ mode. As mater of fact, with an E63 you should be in that mode regardless. We talking pushing a button....no big deal IMO.

It has nothing to do with EPA regulations. It's all about showing better gas mileage on the sticker.

No, the eBay module doesn't let you start in the last mode. I checked with the seller today.

Negative. Was recommended to me by a buddy. I have not used the module. However, it's a US company and you can call and speak to an actual person if you wish. They do seem to be one of the more reputable firms for upgrades from OEM for MB.

If I really wanted eco off this is the company I would use. I'm OK with cheap Chinese junk when it's purely ornamental but I wont't use Ebay specials for tunes and canbus interfaces.

For anyone annoyed with disabling the start / stop feature each time, you can pick up one of our OBD programmers that retains "last mode" for this feature, you can take a look at our vehicle coverages HERE. Pick one up today!
