I have installed a Garmin 55 in my GLC43 (and SLK 350). It is very unobtrusive and works flawlessly and provides high quality video. I run the power off the rear passenger power source (which is only powered if the vehicle is running). Will try to provide pictures to show set-up.
I had been meaning to add a dash cam as well. Will be the first thing that happens to my GLC43 when I get it back from the shop, and plan to get front and rear-facing cameras. Luckily didn't need it for this incident as it was very clear the other driver was at fault!
The shop I'm planning to use only sells the "Momento" brand dash cams. I haven't decided between that one, a Blackvue system, or a Street Guardian. If you read too many reviews you'll find fans and detractors of every system on the market!

For my camera (Garmin 55) the wire is for power - not sure you would get power without the connection. There is a wireless app that allows you to connect to the camera and see the video in the car. I usually just take my camera our of the car and connect the camera to my laptop to see the video and save what I need.
Vantrue S1 dual. It’s a set and forget. It uses a micro SD card. You can use the gps for location, speed etc of an incident.
Ive never “reviewed footage” in the car but it’s easy to pop the SD out to review. You can hit a button to “save” a 5 min section if you need.
I added the power supply as it has a motion sensor (actives via front camera) but records both while unattended/parked.
Otherwise it shuts off when car is off.
Wires are tucked away easily enough.
Ive has a few close calls and just plain crazy drivers to contend with and it’s just in case I need to avoid a he said, she said.
