Smile Pirelli Scorpio verde

After a year of ownership (GLC 63S), and around 6000 miles on the clock, my front tires were really gone. I decided to try another make since the Continental fitted at delivery were skipping, jumping and I had all sort of comments from my mates and my wife 🙈...I went for the Pirelli Scorpio verde, someone on this forum recommended them. Mercedes refused to fit them (I have 20 ‘’ wheels) because the load bearing of the front tires were 4% under the requirements...I got them fitted at an tire outfit. I am so pleased, no more skipping, bangs or noises, they are quiet at speed, very confortable, and apparently will last a long time. I don’t intend to drive above 130 mph, or do circuit stints, so perfect, I am smiling again 😊....

Hi Rapid66, after scouring the internet, you may be my saviour. I just got a GLC63S with 6000 miles on it and am having crabbing issues with the car now that the temperature has dropped and the car is on Continental summer tyres. Ive not even had it a week yet. You can imagine my surprise and concern when the car started jolting all of a sudden as i was backing out of a parking space.

Now that some time has passed, do you still vouch for the Pirelli Scorpio all seasons? Theyre technically not recommended for the car but it doesn’t look like there’s really much choice at all!

looking forward to your reply!

Yes, I still do. I am on my second set pf pirelli’s now. The first set lasted around 17000 miles (front tires were first to go). I changed all 4 at the same time. Never had any crabbing. You will love them. I hear some Michelins all weather are also a good fit. You could look it up…

Thanks! Looks like I might have to get the Pirelli’s because the michelin’s only come in one size (at least here in the UK) which is 255/40 R20 V (101). I plan to speak to a dealer or 2 today to see if they have any recommendations but at this point, i cant see much else in the market.

Do you still have 295/40 on rears and 265/45 on fronts?

cheers for your help mate!

Yes still same size. Really confortable, and the grip is good enough for spirited driving on the roads in the south of France 👍

@AMG-nut @Rapid66

I have been doing some reading and I am stuck between the Pirelli Scorpion Verde and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 All Season, I am also in the UK and I have found a site that has the Michelin and Pirelli with the recommended tyre sizes 265/40 and 295/35. Just need to choose......

Hi Minhaz, what site is this? Im leaning toward the scorpios based on rapid66’s testimonial and theyre easier to get

im trying to convince my local(ish) MB dealer or the 3rd party dealer to pay for these tyres. Why on earth you’d put summer tyres on a car that behaves like this as standard is beyond me. Youre essentially setting the customer up for failure and making them pay another £1k for tyres.

Will let you know how I get on.

Michelin also get good reviews here, mainly from guys who hav 21’’ wheels though. I think Pirelli are not available for 21”. You can’t go wrong with either. I got some really good mileage rom the Scorpio: first set did more than 15k miles. The front tires were gone, but still some life on rear. I decided to change all 4 on recommandations from garage.

Hi guys,

So a little update. Took my car to MB Worcester where im a current customer and the guy told me straight up there was nothing they could do for me. He recommended the Pirelli’s and that i only had to change the front two but ive decided to get all 4 changed and keep the summer tyres for next year. Super frustrating bur hoping these tyres sort the crabbing out as its unbearable in this weather.

will report back on how i get on for the benefit of future readers.

thanks a lot for your help!

I installed Pirelli Scorpion Zero All-Season Plus in the stock 20" sizes 10/19/22 for my 2020 GLC63.
No crabbing and a much better ride. They look great also.
They also have a 500+ treadwear rating, so they should last a while.
My car is having some performance issues, CEL keeps coming on.
My best 0-60 was a 4.1 (3.9 with 1ft roll-out) when it was running OK early on, but not perfect.
No traction issues on a cold day.
Yesterday, very cold day, still running like a dog, 0-60 4.5 (4.2 with rollout), but tires were hooking.

Highly recommend them.

I will start another post later about car issues, hopefully some good advice will be provided.
Car is going back in to Mercedes 12/12th.
