2019 glc63s vs 2020 glc63s

If you had the option to order a 2020 glc63s at 7% discount or purchase a 2019 with 15% discount which would you go with? Im deciding between two options right now and both will be similar builds. Is the mbux and digital display worth it? does the 2020 drive better?

The 2020 is worth the extra few thousand for these reasons:
  • much improved contours of the AMG steering wheel
  • additional steering wheel infotainment functions
  • new standard options for 2020 Include LED lights and performance exhaust, which reduces the cost difference
  • wireless charging future proofs the vehicle for upcoming phones that do not have any wired charging ports
  • LED instrument cluster has the super sport mode, and can display data such as tire temp and oil temp at the same time
  • “emotion start”
  • the ability to have Smartphone integration and active driving assist (unbelievable that it wasn’t possible on 2019 model)
This is my opinion. You decide what is priority to you.

A couple additional thoughts:
  • 2020 has way better ambient lighting
  • MBUX isn’t too useful in our experience, but the touchpad for MBUX is better than the Comand scroll wheel and touchpad that requires a claw-like hand position to operate
  • if you custom build a 2020 order, you’ll likely save a few percent on options you don’t want and you can spec it exactly to your preferences

the 2019 I am looking at does have driver assist? Is the 2020 driver assist a different feature.

also all very valid points. The lease works out to be $200 a month difference.

Honestly... and I haven't done the exact math (been meaning to), but assuming no discounts, I think the 2020 with all the extra included features is a Net 0 increase or even a slight decrease over the exact same 2019 AND it has the new touchscreen MBUX etc. I was shock when I compared the two. I was offered basically the same thing and took the 2020 myself as I think the MBUX and the digital dash were a + for me. The best I've seen on 2019's is about a 15% discount and I think it needs to be a bit more given the pricing of the 2020's and all that honestly. But if there isn't an allocation, and you want it now... 2019 is where it is. The differences between the two are minimal outside of the MBUX and Digital Dash so you can't go wrong either way.

I don’t know if Apple CarPlay was an option at all before the 2020 glc63. If the 2019 was equipped with the larger infotainment screen, then no smartphone integration was possible.

Maybe you guys and gals all have way more $$ than me, but my opinion is that if you are going to spend $85K on a car, you better get exactly everything you want. If you can afford the lease, you can afford the extra $200.

Hey,

100% get the 2020. I work for MB Corporate and have driven both. Everything about the 2020 is significantly better.

Not even a question in my mind, go for the 2020.

What is better other than tech, lights, and steering wheel?

Feeling of the drive, looks (IMO), 0-60 speed, interior sound is next level.

Here is the page from the actual Dealer Ordering Guide. This details what is new option wise.

Better than 7% is possible. Even on an order. Problem is allocation. Or look for one of the 2020 market intro cars that are showing up dealer lots. That’s what ended up doing. Some are not heavily optioned, but selection might be limited.

Definitely go for 2020 if you are purchasing, Resale value will be higher if you decide to sell it in a few years. If you decide to keep it longer, the new tech will make the ownership experience more enjoyable. If you’re leasing and can get a significantly better deal on a 2019, then go for that.

From what I’ve seen, the 2019s that are still left on dealer lots are loaded up with options. Ok if you want them, but you may end up paying for a bunch of stuff you wouldn’t otherwise get, which further negates any price advantage of getting a 2019 vs a 2020.

Regarding market intro cars, there are two variants showing up at dealers - a high cost, well optioned spec in graphite grey for $90k or a less optioned spec in red for $83k. You can see on autotrader that 90% of dealer inventory matches these specs exactly.

If you don’t like either of these market intro spec, then place a custom order.

Totally based on you. The new tech is great but it is essentially the same car besides that in reality and every day driving.

0-60 isn't any different on a 63 than the 2019...

Wouldn’t touch a 2019 with a 10 foot poll even though I own one. It will be sell proof because of all the old tech!

Can we become friends...would love that F&F MB discount...

OP: Definitely go 2020 model, no question...and I’m usually a sucker for big discounts on a vehicle.

If it's a 3-year lease and you're saving like six grand, go for the 2019. Drivetrain is exactly the same. Remember, you ARE buying this car for the drivetrain. You can get exactly the same tech for half the price on some random 4 or 6 cylinder SUV.

All excellent comments. Wouldn’t the 2020 have the updated traction control system? Is it possible that is what made one of the posts above say it felt fast 0-60 ?

As I understand it, it has the Electronic Diff Standard, which allowed them to do away with a different dynamic driving mechanism (to which the name escapes me and I'm having trouble finding it), maybe someone can chime in. Maybe this helped not the 0-60 times but the "track" times and a more sportier feel through the corners?

Is the exhaust note on the 2020 really as good as the 2019 ? Seems neutered to me.

If a commuter car I would do the 19, I stopped getting hung up on options years ago .....most of the stuff I never use. Good luck with your choice. But I always say buy what you want, and not settle.

I keep reading similar posts that 2020 doesn't sound as aggressive relative to 2019 and older? I wonder if the 63 SUV model is also impacted by this even though it now comes standard with performance exhaust in the US?

One of those posts was by me, and I may not have had enough time during my 2020 glc63 test drive to gauge exhaust sufficiently.

I’ll report back after driving my 2020 glc43 after delivery tomorrow.

Select race or sport plus mode. Switch on manual shift mode. The pops and crackles are there on throttle lift off. At least that’s the case on my 2020 63s.
I don’t remember my test drive of the 2019 version well enough to say whether or not there is a difference. But the 2020 sounds good enough to me, and along with the updated tech swayed my decision.

If you want pops and bangs get a DME tune but forget about the performance

Funny enough my own father ordered a 2020 GLC63. He got a fairly high optioned SUV @ 96k. I believe the matte gray/red race seats.

I told him he can have all my parts for 10k and have a 800hp monster. He seems very interested lol.

With that said, he drove my 2018 GLC and fell in love with it so he went ahead and got the updated version. He’s not super techy but you can’t not fall in love with that dash. I just wish they made it one piece glass like all the new models coming out. I sense another possible redesign not so far down the road.

On the exhaust note.. I wouldn’t doubt if it was dumbed down a bit. Truly the car is built on euro specs and as they crack down more and more it doesn’t really matter what we want when buying a car from Germany.

I am still waiting for something new to come out that really jumps at me. I driven quite a bit in the GLC, 15k miles this year which is insane to me considering I normally drive about 8k/year. Just love this damn thing.
