Spare tire GLC 43 fit tested

Every time I was looking for spare tire option for GLC 43 on the forum,I ended up on the GLC 300 forum with minimal answers .
So i decided to do more research and buy parts and make a kit .
This is what I bought on Ebay from different vendors .
First was the wheel , I tried one from a friend who has a GLS 63 .
Wheel was OK in the rear but did not clear the brake in the front but that's a easy fix using 15mm spacer . In that case you can still use your OEM lug nut.
I was able to find a spare tire from a 2018 GLE for $135
Wheel # 167 400 03 00 (4.5x19 ET40) tire is 155-80-19.
Next was to find a jack or a tool kit
I found a tool kit for $63
Look like it's coming from a GLK
Jack # A164 584 07 13
17mm wrench # 221 581 00 01
Jack wrench # 414 581 00 49
Wheel blocker # 164 899 00 54
5 short lug nut (can be used in the rear only , you will need to use 15mm spacer with your OEM lug nut in the front)
Pin to center the wheel / no #

Tool kit

I spent one hour to test front and rear today to make sure nothing rub .
It's all good !

Spare in rear

Spare in the front

All of the tool fit in the tool compartment on the left next to the compressor and the glue cartridge .
The only modification to fit the jack is to remove the tab of the plastic square in the front of the compartment .

Jack wrench fit flat in the air compressor compartment

Wheel blocker fit flat outside

17mm wheel wrench clip inside the air compressor compartment

Jack fit side way out of the compartment

The wheel now .
You will need to remove the cover in the trunk compartment then put the wheel as much as you can on the left and then lower the trap .
It's not closing all the way but pretty close by 1/4 inch .

I didn't try but by removing air from the tire it might be closing but you will need to use you pump to inflate in case of a flat and that might take 10min .
2020 GLC 43 come with a optional spare for $250 so new owner won't have to go thru that if they decide to get a spare .
I don't know if that kit can apply for the GLC 63 !

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Looks like 2020 GLCs when equipped with a spare tire option, use 145/80-19 as a spare tire size (instead of 155/80 for GLE/ML). With 145/80 tire, there is a good chance that floor will be 100% flat when closed with spare under it.

Been looking to fill this space with roadside things that are/will be needed. Luckily, I haven't had to need anything that's "missing" from the trunk.

I see that the wheel is about 1/4" too tall relative to being able to completely close the back cover. I think a 145/80 tire would reduce the tire diameter 10mm (.39 inches) and so would work IF the wheel doesn't stick out past the wall of the tire. On your pic's I can't tell if the wheel sticks out past the tire wall. Can you verify if the wheel sticks out past the tire wall on your spare? In other words, what is the limiting factor in your setup that prevents the cover from closing completley?

Many thanks.

It doesn't need much to close . If you cut the plastic/felt material on the bottom ( the rim doesn't touch, only the tire does) , it will close .
First I will try to remove some material on the cover and see .
I used this size after testing a spare from a friend GLS 63 .
The issue is, you want to keep this rim size to clear the front rotors .
I have seen GLC from Australia equipped with spare tire, they don't have the material in the spare space , just bear metal cover with sound deadening

Great thread, I have a 2021 GLC43 and based on the great info in this thread I have purchased 19" spare with 155/30 tire. Part number A1674000300. I still need to test fit it on the car but it fits just fine in the trunk with the cover closing with no issues at all. Did not have to trim anything or go out of my way, just fits as it should. Also purchases OAM jack kit to go with it.

Great! Try to put it in the front first and check if the caliper rubs . The back should be ok .

If I remember correctly, per chatGPT due to the 4rmatic setup of this car I should run it upfront if needed?

What a great post - thanks for sharing all that info.
Were you able to order just a single spacer from ECS? Is that where the shorter lug nuts came from too?

Normally the lugs are sold separately and you would need longer ones. Original length plus whatever is the spacer width.
