Dealer say fan noise is normal, 2020 vehicle

Hey Guys was hoping to get your help here.
i picked up a 2020 glc 43, and the first day I noticed what I can best describe as a fan noise coming from the center console. It was so loud and annoying that I returned the car to the dealership. They tried to fix the car for almost a month, and they gave it back to me telling me it’s a normal noise, all glc43’s make that noise.

has anybody noticed this?
really appreciate your help
love the car, just not the noise!

My GLC63 also makes that noise, but only after about 30-45 minutes of driving (or longer). I hardly ever notice it since it still is fairly quiet and when you have the radio on, even low, you cannot hear it.

I haven’t noticed this noise in my 2020 glc43. You might want to test drive another glc43 vehicle to see if the noise is present.

I’ll listen more intently next time I drive to see if I notice anything.

Following up from earlier, I drove my 2020 glc43 today and didn’t notice any fan noise.

Glc63 owner, have the noise, complained about it and told it was normal.

noise isn’t there all the time, in fact I haven’t heard it in a few weeks but from time to time it shows up and is very annoying. Whining fan noise coming from center console.

Does your car have ventilated seats? The fans for them can be loud.

2020 glc63 owner here, I have the same noise issue as well. High pitch fan whining/buzzing noise coming from center console area that sometimes gets so loud it's very annoying. Was difficult trying to describe and reproduce the sound to the service advisor because the sound isn't always at its loudest, but finally did manage to bring the car in one day when it was loud. Clearly the sound was coming from the center console area because when you open and close the center cupholder cover, you can hear the sound get louder as you open it and that the sound is coming from within that area. They informed me that it was normal and being caused by one of the internal fans cooling the unit, and pulled another 2020 GLC63 to show me the other car made a similar noise as well, even though it wasn't at its loudest at that point.
Pretty frustrated. Trying to get used to it since nothing can really be done.

Same problem

I have a 2020 GLC with the same problem. Right now it appears that listening to then radio at loud volume causes the problem for me, but I am guessing any power extensive use of the command center will cause this problem.

I can’t believe that a car in this price range would have this kind of simple yet really annoying problem. How much money did they invest in dampening wind noise or tire noise? And then they let a Simple fan completely ruin the driving experience. This is a horrible design flaw that needs fixing.

Judging by what cappuccin000 said, any chance you guys think it could be the wireless charger? Just picked mine up a week ago, I haven't heard that noise yet, also don't have the wireless charger. That's the only difference I see at the moment. I get annoyed very easily with those high pitched sounds.

When your phone overheats, wireless charger will just turn off and throw a message on the screen. I have not seen any active cooling related to wireless phone charger.

I have also not heard this fan noise if it's not HVAC related. My last C class has a wonky HAVC fan that have inconsistent noise that SA can't track down. So far GLC43 had been quiet.

The wireless charging unit is known to sometimes make a buzzing sound. ...it's not a cooling fan but rather an 'electronic' buzzing.

I was referring to the wireless charger having a fan. I know the ones in my home have a fan that cool the charger's electronics, not referring to the phone. So if it's a faulty charger that could possibly make some noises.

It’s a known issue

2020 63 coupe owner here - I have had it off and on since I bought it in January.

have taken it in numerous times and pressed them for an answer. Finally after months of pestering I find out that Mercedes knows about this issue and that the console just over heats and the fan in there That cools it down needs a fix, the fix is supposedly available after September 2020. I had the service department give me the documentation that proves it. So we’re all pretty much in the same boat.

I haven’t taken it back in for the fix since I haven’t had it come on again, plus I’ve been lazy to do so lol.
keep you posted on when I do.

But it sounds similar / comes from the charging pad area, right?
Post when you have a chance to find it - thanks.

Interesting, so it's an MBUX fan and not a wireless charger fan.
That doesn't make much sense since putting the phone on the charger makes it produce the noise.

Mine is in that area too but it’s also up near the MBUX system. I can hear it through the AC vents.

I think it’s in between them. But yeah it looks like it needs a software fix to regulate the speed better so it doesn’t sound like the car is about to take off.

As a correction to what I said earlier, I heard it on my car for the first time last night and I don't have the wireless charger. I did however have the heat on pretty high since outside temps hit the 30s.
Thanks for the upload Shawnymeri, look forward to getting this fixed. Hopefully my car won't be at the dealer for three weeks again

GLC 300
I have GLC 300 2020 and this annoying loud buzzing comes on from center console. The ac nor heat system is activated at time and randomly comes on as quickly as 2 minutes into drive which possibly can’t be an overheating fan issue. Serviced at least 4x and outcome is “normal as we checked a similar vehicle”. This is not a resolution and is unacceptable! Contacted corporate in regard to lemon law and seems to be going nowhere. Very disappointing for a luxury vehicle.
