Any GLC43 Owners Cross Shop and X5?

I ended up leasing an X5 but am considering a GLC43 when my lease is up. I am interested if any current GLC owners cross shopped an X5 and compared ride, features, storage and other factors. Thanks.

2 very different classes. X5 shoppers should be looking at the GLE43. which like the M% is going to be more feature rich, more comfortable and spacious.

X5 = 5 series
GLC = C Class

Correct.

My GLE63s was the ultimate road trip car. It was the smoothest, quietest, most comfortable car I have ever owned. Just turn on cruise control, hit the massage seat buttons and put your butt in the most comfortable seats available.

My GLC63s is a race car. Mean, nasty, harsh and gets more attention than any car I have ever owned. I love this car.

If the OP is going to cross shop, he has to go with the X3M40i. I had mine tuned and it was a rocket but that's all it had to offer. It had horrible cabin noise, road like it had bricks for tires and had the most uncomfortable seats I have ever owned. I kept it for 7 months and dumped it because I hated it.

I have almost always owned a Q5 in one form or another. You may want to look at them too. The SQ5 is a nice car, heck, I have a 2019 Q5 Premium Plus as we speak.

Sorry for all the pictures but I think all posts should include pictures. I mean...we are car guys...

I agree that the direct competitor for the X5 is the GLE but thought maybe some had compared the room and ride in the GLC to the X5 instead of the X3. I've owned many BMWs, 13 in all, over the years but the SL is my first Mercedes. I drove an X3M40i before we leased the X5 and the ride and interior comfort was not acceptable. That's why we ended up with an X5. I am impressed with our local dealer so I'm giving consideration to a Mercedes SUV when the lease is up on the X5. We really don't need all the room that we have in the X5 but I checked the specs and rear seat room in the GLC class is almost the same as the X5. The biggest difference is cargo space behind the 2nd row. The GLE is overkill for us which is why I am going to check out a GLC. A nicely equipped GLC 300 might suffice but I do prefer the power and smoothness of a 6 cylinder. I will also check out a Q5 including the SQ5 but ride is important as we use the SUV as our road trip car. Is the ride in the GLC43 decent for road trips compared to a GLC300? When this pandemic subsides, if it ever does, I do plan to visit our local dealer and take some test drives. Thanks for the responses.

I came from the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT to the GLC63. For me, it was a good move because I race my cars, drive hard and honestly am better off in a Sedan.
The tricky thing about rear legroom is that it never reflects the reality with front passenger seating choice. I suspect the X5 also has rear seat that recline slightly like my Jeep did. You won't find that in the GLC.

I strongly suggest sticking with the GLE class if you are shopping for a road trip vehicle because the GLC is a little hatchback rat rod.

Your talk of road trip remind me of my time in Frederick at USAMRIID, taking trips to and through Maryland. Beautiful highways in your neck of the woods for sure.

We may go back to sedan for most road trips as it is almost always just my wife and I. Have had both a 5 series and an A6. Will also consider an E Class. Wife has an RX for the bike rack and roof rack for the kayak.

I spent 23 years at Ft. Detrick, 3 on active duty and 20 as an NIH Contractor.

It is easier to store your wife in the back of a SUV than in the trunk of a sedan plus it doesn't make the cops as mad...

The GLC is a fine bike carrier, Pop a Stealth Hitch on and there are zero signs of have a hitch until you want to use it.

What brand hitch did you install? I think I am ready for one.
BTW, if you went SUV, roof rack would have solved your problem

Stealth Hitch and Kuat Sherpa bike rack.

I absolutely hate roof racks.
