I am looking at buying a AMG GLC 63S and drive about 40,000 miles a year on the highway for work. I’m concerned about how this vehicle will handle even with snow tires. I had a Audi Q7 with 22” tires and it was always squirrelly and I hated driving it.
I have a 2020 GLC63 SUV and live in Michigan. I don't drive the highway miles that you do but with snow tires, the car is great in the snow, handles fairly well and is fairly predictable. It actually rides a little better as well. I run the same size snow tires as stock on 21" stock rims. I run Pirelli Winter Scorpions.
I just purchased a 2020 AMG GLC 63s and was worried about the same thing. I've previously had a Jaguar F-Pace S and several BLW X5s — all of which were good in the winter — but wasn't sure how the GLC 63s would perform. I had Pirelli Scorpion winter tires installed three days ago, just in time for winter to hit here in Colorado. It dropped from around 70F to less than 10F in a day. And it snowed. The Mercedes was a champ — in my opinion even better than the Jaguar or the BMWs. In slippery mode, it handled the snow and ice easily, even going up a steep driveway without any slip. And, it still handles great on the dry roads.
I wouldn't let concerns about winter performance keep you from making a purchase. It's been great in my (limited) experience so far.
I have the Pirelli winter scorpions on my GLC 63s, and while I'm not personally a fan of Pirelli tires, they have handled the snow and ice we've had this year already quite well.
My GLC 63 handled fine in winter driving except for the original Conti performance tires. I switched to Conti all seasons and everything was fine - a dramatic improvement
I would recommend my setup for winter driving. 19-inch Fast wheels and Continental Viking 7 winter tires - 255/50R19 they perform very well in snow and as a bonus are very quiet with a provide more comfortable ride than my summer tires.
Also, the grabbing problem is gone at any temperature.
