Burmeister in GLC not a good as in C class?
New member, first post! Just wanted to ask if anyone else has noticed that the Burmeister in the GLC (2018) does not sound as good as in the C class (2015)?
It's difficult to describe the difference I'm noticing in the GLC, but perhaps it lacks the depth that I used to get in the C class. This is consistent across different audio sources (radio, Bluetooth, etc). I've tried tweaking surround and equalizer, but just can't achieve the depth and richness that I used to get in the C class. Could this be because it lacks the sub woofer that the C class has in the boot? I know the GLC has two subwoofers in the front dash, but it just doesn't sound anywhere as good as the C class.
Is this expected or should I get MB to check it out? The car is still under warranty.
Thanks in advance.
What source are you using? Other than the actual car model, the only other difference I know to exist between my two models is that the GLC63 has Apple CarPlay but the C300 did not. The bulk of my audio is either Spotify or Qobuz via CarPlay. I've heard of CarPlay causing issues in a variety of makes and models, but in all honesty I haven't experimented enough with it to conclusively say that this is my problem. I know that third-party upgrades for the center screen rely on the car's USB port for audio passthrough, which can also diminish audio quality.
It's somewhat comforting to know someone else is feeling my pain, but at the same time it reinforces the idea that it's a problem I might just be stuck with.
I have an Android phone (same phone I used to stream to my C class). My GLC63 S doesn't have CarPlay or Android Auto enabled (even though the same model of the same year has them overseas - I'm in Australia). My C class didn't have CarPlay or Android Auto either.
I'll ask the dealer if there's an update to the Comand that may help. Any other suggestion or fix welcome.
Thanks.
Of course, I might not have a clue about sound fidelity even after dozens of sessions in recording studios with high-end audio gear. Good luck with your issue.
Of course, I might not have a clue about sound fidelity even after dozens of sessions in recording studios with high-end audio gear. Good luck with your issue. It might be related to sound deadening in amg compared to non-amg ones, which could impact the feel of the sound system. Just my thought.

For Plug & Play solutions, I found a company in Germany who makes PnP speaker replacements for the entire car. If you only want to replace the subs, the part number for the pair is MB195 L. Here is the full compatibility list from ETON. Not sure where you are located, but I haven't had much luck finding a US retailer for these. I did find a German site with reasonable pricing and shipping to the US. About $485 for the pair of subs via ARS24.com (German). They also have an pretty in-depth install video of these for a C-Class which is somewhat similar. This would be really useful if I do go this route.
I've also found that the JL Audio ACS110LG-TW1 PowerWedge+ 10" powered subwoofer should fit under the cargo floor cover with minimal cutting. Should be able to get audio and power taps to this in the trunk area. This should add a decent amount of bass without being too overpowering. But a bit more 'custom' than replacing the factory "subs".
You could always go the full custom route, but I am not a fan of doing any irreversible modifications to my cars.
