GLC63 - How long have your brake rotors and rear pads been lasting?

How long have your brake pads and rotors been lasting? I know everyone drives differently but would like to get an idea. Every 10k or 20k? Or somewhere in between? And does anyone here get it at done at the dealer (has it done at the dealer before) and able to provide a current cost? Seems like they have to do all 4 each time (all rotors and brake pads).

Thanks!

I have a '19 GLC43, but I recently replaced my rear pads and rotors at ~31k miles and spent almost $700 at the dealer.

I can see replacing the pads if you drive aggressively or simply want a different pad compound that produces less dust but the rotors should last years unless you take the car on a road course/track regularly.

Do the dealer require that you change it all out at one time (all rotors and pads) ? I did a search on this forum and that seem to be the case (if dealer serviced)

Normal rule of thumb, on a 63, is that you can get 2 pad changes per 1 rotor. Seems like pads last about 20k miles and rotor thickness is still good.

I have to have my front rotors changed tomorrow. Only 12k miles on a 2020 GLC 63. I don't drive the car very hard or in traffic. IMO this should not happen with such low mileage.
Dealer said the rotors are covered by warranty for 24k. They said I didn't need to replace the pads because they are fine (they are not covered). I'll check the pads myself tomorrow and I may change them.

Anyone experienced problems with rotor with this few miles?

I drive hard as heck all the time and I changed my pads at 25k and the rotors were just fine.

The cost of replacement pads/ rotors is incompatible between the 43 and 63/ 63s models. The former being several hundreds whilst the latter being several thousands. The 43 pads/ rotors tend to wear longer - generally speaking due to many factors other than the obvious weight/ driving manner etc etc; whereby the 63/ 63s models wear sooner…generally speaking.

In terms of maintenance costs, the 43 is like any other car, even though they term it an AMG. I’d rather have the 43 AMG GLC in regards to that, because anytime something needs changing, it tends to costs thousands…

So far, I’ve been able to run my pads every 30,000km there abouts. Usually I’d change rotors when I’m changing from my 3rd set to my 4th he he. If I was doing any performance driving it’d be sooner of course, but then again, who the F buys a SUV capable of doing a race or what have you!? Not me…honestly! Really!?

My cars nearly done 100,000km and it’s a 2018, GLC 63s Coupe that I daily, like a F champ😂👍

From what the SA told me, it's not just aggressive braking that eats pads, it's heavy use of traction control -- that is, aggressive driving in general. I guess this makes sense since application of the brakes is the primary tool the TC system has to manipulate... umm.. traction at each wheel. I guess?

The dealer suggested new pads and rotors for my 2018 63 over a year and 25K miles ago (and quoted me over $6k). I just replaced them myself at just over 50K miles and I'm guessing there was another 10K miles left on the pads and no warp to the rotors. I'm a pretty aggressive driver, but based on the responses here, I guess I'm harder on the gas pedal than the brake pedal.

Tim McGraw, what did you replace them with? And how much did it cost/how long did it take to replace yourself? I have a 2019 GLC 63 and dealership is recommending I replace all pads and rotors. Said the rear rotors have “30-40%” life in them (this was a year ago)

Rotors have 30-40% or pads? From what I've seen here the rotors are good for 2 sets of pads, but I replaced mine anyway.

It's a pretty easy job. Took maybe an hour.

Front: VNE 9150 from FCP Euro
Rear: Brembo from ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/15442432608...gAAOSwol5ggVuj
$1128 for all 4 drilled and slotted.

Used EBC Redstuff pads DP32270C Front and DP32314C rear. $250 for all 4 from Amazon. Way less dust than OEM pads.

@Tim wow life saver. How do you like the quality of the rotors as far as braking etc? Also do I need anything else other than those purchases ? Such as sensors etc ?

I'm very happy with the braking performance. Very quiet way less dust. Pads might grab a little less when cold but comparable once warm. They are ceramic pads so probably not great if you track your car. EBC Yellow stuff would be appropriate for track but will produce more dust but probably still less than OEM. Rotors are a non-issue.

If you are careful and haven't hit the wear sensors yet, you can reuse them, but they are cheap to replace. The sensors are on the passenger side and are different front and rear. Sorry I don't have the part numbers handy.

There are plenty of videos on how to replace if you need them.

Thank you. Also, besides the rotors and pads (and sensors) is there anything else I need to purchase for assembly? Going to have a local mechanic do it for me but I’m providing the parts. Thank you!

That's pretty funny. I just read this post, but I ordered the same rotors last week. I also did ceramic pads.

where did you get your ceramic brakes ? I looked up the red stuff pads as suggested on eBay and eBay fitment is saying those wouldn’t fit. Thank you

I replaced all 4 pads at 28K miles on the GLC43. Bought some R1 Concept ceramic pads, all for about $120, sensors included and my indie shop did the job for about $200.

POWER STOP Z23-2047 - rear and Z26-1291 - front , rockauto , paid 110 for both + shipping. Ceramic tech is pretty cheap so i have no idea why that brake world fleece MB ppl so bad, probably consider em moneybags lol
