Which Exhaust (GLC43)

After a mistake on my part, my recent 2018 GLC43 purchase did not come with the performance exhaust. I’m feeling I am missing a big part of the AMG ownership with the lack of exhaust burble compared to other GLC 43’s. So I plan to do a resonator delete. But I do not want to butcher my std exhaust so plan to buy a used one off eBay and have the resonator removed.. then I can always go back. Problem is my std exhaust looks different to used GLC43 exhausts on eBay. It appears there are 2 types: picture 1 (mine). Picture 2 (eBay version).

My existing exhaust has loads of wires and looks totally different. The one on eBay looks like I could delete the resonator. Will it fit? What happens to my existing wires because there appears nowhere for them to go on the eBay version.

To add to your complexity, I believe someone else had similar as you, they ended up installing aftermarket Fi (which comes with its own active exhaust option, same as the more expensive option Capristo btw). But it did not all of a sudden give Burble. They had to then get the burble tuned in as well with an ECU tune.

I guess I’m just throwing that caution out there, that the burble tends to be a result of the ecu not exhaust/resonators (they only enhance it) and when you ordered it without active exhaust it’s also possibly not coded that way.

Thanks. That makes sense. I just can’t understand why my standard exhaust is different to the other std GLC43 exhausts. I’ve looked at several 43’s and my exhaust is different to all of them..
weird!

I have a 2018 GLC43 with the performance exhaust and it looks way different than your first picture. There are two separate pipes that come from the engine to the resonator and then 2 separate pipes run from the resonator to the muffler at the rear. These pipes enter the muffler in the middle and separate pipes leave the muffler from each side. Have you already removed the muffler on yours? Mine does not look like your second picture either.

Both my pictures are std exhausts. It’s just the one on my car is totally different…

I want to buy the one on eBay and do a resonator delete but my existing std exhaust has a bunch of wires that the eBay standard exhaust doesn’t have. Very odd.

Mystery solved: the one with the wires and crap in it is a uk spec/ euro spec glc 43 exhaust with a OPF/GPF filter built into the section where the resonator would go. Those wires are attached to prongs/sensors that measure the efficacy of the opf filter.

The other one without the wires has an actual good old fashiod resonator in it.
It could be that mb had to change over to a opf exhaust mid-model run.

The same goes for the uk c43 PE. The rest of world has the resonator, the others like the UK has 2 opf filters in the place of the resonator.

Hope this helps.

thanks- that makes sense. I guess swapping the one for the other would not work as it will probably throw out codes given the opf wires..

Does anyone know if it's worth upgrading the exhaust to Capristo or Amytrix if you already have the performance exhaust on the GLC 43? I'm tempted to go with Capristo but want to make sure it's a noticeable difference before pulling the trigger.

2022 GLC 43 AMG SUV
I went from a PE on my previous 2021 AMG to the standard exhaust on the newer (and loaded) 2022 43. While the burble is pleasant sounding while in Park and accelerating, the sound was just annoying during longer drives--the 43 is noisy enough on its standard run-flat tires. Something to consider...

Are you referring to the PE or the non-PE on the current car? For the PE you could close the exhaust if you find it too much, if you are referring to the latter car then yup you can't close the valves. As for run-flats definitely get rid of them if it gets annoying.

My current 2022 43 has the standard exhaust which is still more aggressive-sounding than the standard exhaust on my wife's GLC 300.. I did not even know I could control the valves on the 2021 43 model with a PE. Also, oh horror! it did not have red stitching and red seat belts... ;-)

I am very happy with my little AMG SUV; it's a cute toy. If they only let me pre-heat the steering wheel and the seats together with a remote start, and fixed the 4:3 AA map screen size... but these are trifle complaints.

Thanks for your reply but that doesn't answer my question (or maybe your reply was not directed to my question, if so sorry about that):

In regards to comparing the GLC 300 to the GLC 43, I (personally) think it isn't a fair comparison, the vehicles were designed and tuned for different purposes, the latter being more on the sportier side. The GLC 300 also have a four cylinder and the GLC 43 has a six-cylinder which will naturally always sound better than a four-cylinder, I think if you really want to compare, it will be more appropriate to compare the sound of a M139 engine (being a four cylinder and tuned for sportiness) towards the engine in the GLC 43. FWIW, the E 450 pre-facelift had the same engine as the GLC 43 but tuned differently will still sound better and more aggressive than a GLC 300 based on the fact one is a six-cylinder and the other is a four-cylinder. Just my thoughts though, that's all : )
