Thoughts on the BMW X7

The local BMW dealership just received three X7's, I had a chance to do a walk-around of the 40i in Carbon Black with Ivory White/Night Blue Full Leather Merino. It is very impressive looking. I did not yet drive one but hope to do so soon as it competes directly with my GLS. Here are just a few pics:

Anyone else see it in the flesh yet? What are your thoughts?

I did get to see one and drive it. Really an amazing car and superior to the current GLS in every way I could think of. My hesitations with that car are that its a first year BMW, as such they usually have many many problems. Already the new X5 has been a disaster on that front.

Its also very techy, in a very tacky kind of way. It makes all the tech seem really cheesy and 'hey look at me' or 'hey im so futuristic looking' kind of way thats a put off to me. But the tech itself was really phenomenal.

I also loved the drive. If you drive that one with the larger wheels let us know about the comfort, was curious what those wheels would do to the ride.

Finally about that grill, in person I thought it suited the car just right and I actually liked it.

Overall its a great car, in a different space then the GLE and priced much higher

I'm planning to drive that X7 if they haven't sold it.

I'm with you on that one. I thought the grill looked fine on such a large vehicle. It looks fine on the new X5 but many of the faithful don't care for it.

X7 is on my list as well. It's in the same price range as a well equipped GLE450. For me, an X7 configured the way I like is $86k, while a GLE450 is $84k. X7 comes with 3 year maintenance so if you factor that in, they are the same price, and X7 is quite a bit bigger.
Going to wait for the new X167 GLS to compare. All 3 are on my shopping list.
My local BMW dealer has a party to show case the X7 in 2 weeks. I'm hoping to get the night off from work so I can go attend.

Not a fan, yet. I saw one in the dealer where my wife took delivery of a G01 X3. I need to see the new X7 on the road to get a better appreciation for it.

It's gorgeous. Mercedes will likely show the new GLS next month at NYC. They have their work cut out for them.

Thanks. I never thought I would buy a BMW but here I am. BMW realized they had their work cut for them when they decide to take on the 3-row market but they did their homework and got many things right. I am looking forward to seeing the new GLS when it's unveiled in NY in a few weeks. I'm sure many are going to love it.

Thanks. We’ve lived in Berks county for the past five years. We lived in Lancaster County prior to that for 19 years but we are originally from Lewistown PA. Where are you at these days?

You are absolutely correct. I owned 3 GL/GLS models and this is a more well thought out vehicle with advanced tech. It rides every bit as smooth, has more room, and provides a better driving experience. The steering is very impressive. Those who choose to stick with Mercedes are not making a bad decision, they make great automobiles, but the new X7 is definitely worth a test drive for anyone considering a large SUV.

Well yeah I would expect that compared to the current GLS which is just old now. The true test will be how it stacks up against the new GLS.

Not a big fan of the X7. Saw a white one today and I just wasn’t feeling that huge grille. Maybe in other colors it would look better. Will be interesting to see how the new GLS looks. I currently have a ‘19 G550 for my daily driver and have been looking at the new GLE to replace my other car, which is a ‘16 GLE400.

The X7 sold 2186 units in March, I'd say BMW has a hit on their hands. I'm seeing them almost daily now.

There is already a recall for some X7’s according to a recent news feed.
Maybe minor though it’s for seatbelts.
