Thanks. My dealer has an allocation for first decade of September, so we’re going to do another build and I’ll take whichever arrives first.

This has been an interesting discussion for someone exploring the possible purchase of a new vehicle. I am at the point in life where getting into and out of a low, 2 seater Porsche is no longer fun or practical no matter how awesome to drive. Plus, wanting to pare down to 2 vehicles from 3 currently has driven us to research a fun, somewhat sporty crossover SUV that would meet a wide range of wants/needs. Hence, the BMW X5, Audi Q8, Porsche Cayenne and M-B GLE 450 are all candidates of whose forums and reviews are being considered. As you can guess, many posts are from folks who have owned all of these brands at some point and who switched because of how awful the company was or the dealer or both. Customer service seems to be lacking at all of the luxury Germany autohaus. There’s absolutely no interest on my part for any American, Japanese or Korean offerings and sorry, but the British nee Indian or Swedish/Chinese alternatives are equally off putting. Just thought it was interesting that the forums for all 4 (3) German manufacturers were so similar in this regard.

This is the fourth ML/GLE I've special ordered early and there has never been this issue, so I have to think the ship will be righted eventually. I have found customer service once you own the vehicle very good.

Thank you. That is very good to know. We had that experience with our Porsche Audi dealership in PA but the jury is still out on all the dealers in the Hilton Head area.

This is typical corporate fluff and the wording is very close to what I see from my very large German employer.

They sure made a “long” lasting luxury purchasing experience for me so far.

It was a big move for me to come over to this, my first Mercedes. I am hoping that the ownership experience will be a good one. I have had three Lexus RX Hybrids and I cannot say enough good things about the vehicle or the dealer. I traded my last Lexus (wife still has one) on a 2018 GMC Denali and got rid of it after just 13 months!!! It was a horrible ownership experience.

My only caution with the GLE is that some of the technology seems to be a work in progress. Meaning that it is still being rolled out as we drive the vehicles. You will find some things in the manual that are not there, but then show up a few weeks later. I have no idea how a customer who does not partake in MBWorld would even find out about some of those things. This board is a great help.

Well said! That’s exactly how I see the Tech. The concepts and integration are great but there is still work to do. The fact that MBUX will be fairly common across all platforms should result in a “living” up to date system eventually. Our 2018 Audi system became Obsolete in 2019 when Audi changed to an Android based system better suited to phone and phone app. integration.
I haven’t had any issue that didn’t seem like a minor software glitch. The base GLE Vehicle is very good, IMO.

In that regard, is the Apple CarPlay wireless or wired?

I don’t think they support wireless CarPlay yet.

If my memory is correct with Car Play there is wired or wireless but not both. I’m not sure wireless charging would keep up with battery drain on a longer trip. I use Android Auto but MBUX is very good for basic Nav and has great maps so I only use AA for less common destinations that the Mercedes doesn’t recognize. Things like some Dr’s, small retailers, etc aren’t always found by the “Hey Mercedes” command but even that has improved in 3 months.

I had previously figured/hoped my GLE would be ready before the end of the summer, however my dealer has now asked me to send them a new build for their September allocation, and they are actively seeking a similar build from other dealers, which leaves me little hope of the one I ordered in March being ready any time soon. Ugh. I appreciate the effort the salesperson is putting into this. It sucks that MBUSA won't even bother to give them an ETA on the one I have ordered.

I find it hard to believe how Daimler/MBUSA is not addressing this more proactively with their most loyal customers, us who choose to special order. Terrible black mark on the brand.

W or V?

We’re finally back to “V167.” Not easily.

This is bewildering. Makes me think that they have fixed the problem on the production line but maybe haven't found a good way to fix the parked GLEs. Or maybe it would cause too much of a disruption to production and MB is maybe instructing dealers to reorder them. Who knows.

Class vs code

V-Class are vans, that is different than the internal production code that distinguishes different generations of a model. So we have GLE-Class that is a V167 production code for the current model of that class.
