I use the ones provided in the cable kit. Are you not experiencing this with an aftermarket cable?
It’s MBUX issue. I even let an Apple Store employee bringing several cables to my car to try them out. The cables were ranging from Apple brand to some third-party brands. We tried both USB-C to lightning cables and USB-A to lighting cables (with Mercedes USB-C to USB-A adapter came with the car). I also tried different iPhones: iPhone 7, iPhone XS Max and iPhone 11 Pro, all with latest iOS version. The issue always occurred no matter which cable or device we used.
Problem: I find that when I plug my iPhone X (with latest iOS 13.3.1) in, It will bring up the Carplay tab, in the top left of the MBUX screen, however no amount of pressing it (whether via touchscreen, touchpad, nor steering wheel blackpearl) will actually open Carplay. Solution: Press the Home tab, then press the Carplay tab. Repeat if necessary, but this usually works the first time. Benefit: No need to disconnect/reconnect the phone to the cable.

I figured this out as well. I always have this issue and pressing home and then carplay again works every time.
I’m waiting for 2021 GLE 53 Coupe, I really hope they have wireless CarPlay working by then. How stupid is it to have wireless charging but having to plug in for CarPlay...

Tried this yesterday, the system just disconnected my phone. Had to reconnect manually again.
Just read through this entire thread...i picked up a 2020 GLE 450 hoping to connect to wireless CarPlay...it’s not there...??? Why have I read many articles that state it’s been in the GLE since 2019? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tom...-with-your-car
is it really true it’s still not included? If not, why not when other sources say yes? If so, am I missing some setup steps?
I found an easy way to open Android Auto with one touch...it might work on an Apple phone. I long press the voice button like I’m going to ask Google a question. Up pops Android Auto.
As far as Wireless phone connections I read recently that neither IOS or Android support both wired and wireless-it’s one or the other. Not making excuses for them but that could be a factor. The new Audi SQ8 that I test drove supported Apple wireless and Android wired.

I just did the same thing. Still having 14 days to decide if I want CarPlay or not. I use it all the time in my E-class.. (Not wireless, but at least fullscreen CarPlay) ..
This sucks
I can confirm this really suck as I just picked up 2020 glc 43 and ios 13.6.1. I did not know this issue exist until I took the car. I did not buy the Multimedia package because Google maps was preferred until this issue came up. GRRRR.. MB needs to update their software.
I chat with my sale rep and MB remove the SD-Card chip (allow to add navigation after delivery) for 2020 models because majority prefer carplay YET they don't have full size resolution.
I tried to use messaging with just Bluetooth and it won’t work. I called Apple, they advised me to talk to Mercedes. The person in charge of delivery tutoring told me it would work only with Apple Car Play. The manual says that is not correct. What am I doing wrong?
Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto is fully functional on MBUX. No need for extra hardware but those A Holes from Mercedes Benz deactivated it like they did with the dash cam. Thank God for coding.

Go to your Bluetooth connected devices on your phone. The one that reads MBUX and a few number press the icon that looks like an i. There select allow notifications. Now you will be able to send text messages

How/Who can do coding? Is there something like OBD Eleven for Audi available? I haven’t been able to find a method or anyone with an available solution. Add on/off for Drive Mode to my list. Would love to code Drive Mode to stay at the selected Mode until changed.
I keep seeing this one set of pics from some guy on the web who said he made it work. Not buying it tbh.
Its very true. The name of the guy is Max Yao from Singapore. The problem is that he ask for $3500 to send you everything you need. You need to buy the OBD tho. Hell send you everything online then when you do the physical connection to the ecu he’ll do it remotely with team view, however just for a one time use.

He works on every and any European car. The problem is that he is too damn expensive.

Ahh, its EleBest Pte Ltd yah they do a lot of those
I just got so excited. Finally, I found a product that can make Wireless CarPlay work on MBUX. Please check out the pictures. HOWEVER, it's not quite easy to get it in the US.
About two weeks ago, I was surfing on Taobao, which is Chinese eBay/Amazon. I found a new Wireless CarPlay adapter that claimed to work on the new GLE. I triple-checked with the seller, and he promised that his product works. (In fact, I tried two other Wireless CarPlay adapters before, and none of them worked.) Then, the new adapter got delivered to my friend living in China, and my friend UPSed it to me. (The shipping costed more than the adapter itself.) I just got it this evening, and it worked like a charm.
A side topic: A month ago, I managed to make my dealer update MBUX to the newest version ntg6/080, also known as FUP3. The update definitely fixed the delayed wired CarPlay launching, and the whole MBUX system seems running much nimbler.
Disclaimer: I don't sell the product. I just want to share the information that Wireless CarPlay adapter is viable on the new GLE. Hopefully, we can see similar products on the US market soon.

Can you send the link to the product? My sister lives in China and could send it to me.
Since I just got the adapter today, I haven't spent a lot of time on that. I found that everything worked as expected. You can even use the steering wheel to control Siri. However, there is one snag. My instrument cluster screen is set to Media. Unlike wired CarPlay, the instrument cluster doesn't show the playing song name and album art. I have to say that even with this minor issue, the adapter is a great product. And FINALLY, the wireless charging pad is not sitting there collecting chewing gum wrappers.
