Drove in moderate stop-and-go traffic for the first time and it was an absolute joy to drive. The vehicle did most of the work for me, maintaining a good distance and speed behind the car in front, stopping and starting with traffic and switching lanes safely when asked. I barely had to touch the pedals and let the car do the bulk of the steering. It was about as relaxing as driving in stop-and-go traffic can be.

280 is the latest. I thought I had it installed but then the web portal alerted me that my vehicle had 260 installed, and newest was 280.
I downloaded the update, but then when trying to run it on the vehicle, it said that 280 is older vs what the car has installed directly via online update.
Now everything shows 280 and the mbusa website still says I have an older version installed. Go figure..

Just had my first 10k service today and got feedback on two ongoing issues. I asked that the Key Fobs be fixed so that they work properly. Also my Mercedes Assistant has become unreliable with voice commands. Feedback from the Dealer is that Mercedes is working on both with a fix expected soon.
I've come to believe that both are caused (or at least affected) by software conflicts in the system that build up over time. As an example my rear hatch failed to stop at the preset height after months of working correctly. Now it’s back working without any intervention or reset. Mirrors revert to fold on lock after a week or two, etc. This morning I had both Fobs in my pocket and my car locked 3 times in a row....coincidence or ??? It usually fails more than 50% of the time!

Still bugging out, today I am shown again that I have 260 and newest is 280. I wish they would move away from this beta feeling for the online services already, it is starting to get annoying.

Seems like they’re doing maintenance now. Maybe it’ll get fixed???

I am able to access the portal again, but the map update says,

"This service is not available.The service Online Map Update is unavailable for technical reasons.

Please contact your service partner to localise and eradicate this problem directly."

I just login on my end and is getting the update available message showing map currently installed as v260 and v280 is available. They are definitely having some issue on their portal.

Just a quick update on a few things.

Windshield wipers-At the first 10k service mine were replaced as part of the 4 year service plan and the new ones work great. I had a sticky residue on the windshield at delivery that I removed and cleaned the wipers with WD 40. There was still a little chatter in low rain conditions. The new ones have no chatter, work perfect.
Key Fobs-My Service Manager emailed his contact at Mercedes a few days ago and got this response “We are still waiting for the Supplier to ship” Apparently they will replace the defective Fobs at some future date.
Software update FUP3-Will fix a number of current issues and was targeted for year end 2019. As of a few days ago it is still not ready. Serv. Mgr doesn’t know if it includes Car Play/Android Auto, he didn’t ask. He said that it included several of my issues like Nav and Mercedes Assistant, blank screen. If they find the source of the random software conflicts that seem to build up over time, that will go a long way toward fixing mine. Things work and then they don’t....

I fear intentional damage by people that don’t like rich people’s cars like some are harassing Tesla drivers or charging station blocking. A neighbor had his rear view mirror torn off his Mercedes while parked at the mall. Did someone back into it-doesn’t really look like vandalism. Either way I feel for you. The first dent or rock chip is a downer but that emblem damage is worse and in a very noticeable location. Hope it can be buffed out...

Earl Build

I took my 450 in to the dealer Monday morning with a long list of issues. I consider most of them to be fairly minor but added together getting to be annoying. This afternoon my Service Department Associate called to tell me that Mercedes has authorized replacing two components...a controller was mentioned but he was ordering by Part Number and would know more in the next day or two. I hope they aren’t coming from Germany. When I get my Service Docs and talk to the Shop Forman I’ll post some details. I’ve felt for some time that I had some type of hardware issue.

Here’s the list I gave them...while lengthy I think it helps them understand and hope to show it’s not user error. Also I am less likely to forget details. I also backup issues with video when Possible since many are random and can’t necessarily be repeated at the Dealership.

2020 MERCEDES GLE450 ISSUES
  1. The Key Fob fails locking a high percentage of the time. It always works to unlock & start the car, just fails locking. I still think part of the problem is vehicle related because it failed far less frequently for a month or two after delivery and got progressively worse-the original Fobs were both replaced so I have had 4 different Fobs.
  2. The Air Suspension adjusts randomly while in Comfort Mode. I find that I need to adjust the rear view mirror either up or down after driving for awhile. On Nov. 30 I left home and travelled a few blocks and while stopped at a light, I noticed the front end rising. (Wouldn’t have noticed except for the car parked in front of me.) It might have been the rear lowering, making it appear like the front was going higher. Vehicle empty, no passenger-have not used any settings to change ride height or towed in months, just low speed city driving. One day it remained as set (so I can see most of the rear hatch window with just the lower edge of the frame showing) for 20-30 minutes with 2 stops. The next day it was off so much I was only seeing a small part of the upper rear hatch window. After a few minutes it was showing the upper half of the window and did not move again in 15 minutes of driving. Some days it repeatedly changes….I set it and then have to keep moving the mirror up and down. Hard braking/acceleration doesn’t seem to trigger it.
  3. Folding mirrors locking-I set to off-The system randomly resets to on.... usually stays off for several days and then sets back on. Has never worked right since delivery.
  4. “Kick to open” fails most of the time but might work after shaking the Fob. This function worked most of the time for a month or two after delivery.
  5. Navigation failures-I have used Nav about 5 times for longer trips. In October 2019 at about 400 miles into my trip, Nav just disappeared again. I used the center control button to switch to music and when I returned to the Nav screen my route was gone. This happened twice before during a long trip to Colorado in July, 2019.
  6. Android Auto does not work with the steering wheel & console touchpad. Also it’s not set to work full screen. The touchpads worked until early July. Reportedly an Android Auto update caused the issue!
  7. Hey Mercedes voice command stopped working-Oct. 2019 It “sort of” works with the steering wheel voice button but not as good as before. Now I get the Google Assistant at times with a short press instead of long press and commands aren’t as effective. At times it ignores the first and even second command and other times just gets the command wrong. i.e. I say Navigate and get the phone options.
  8. The interior Assistant stopped working-Jan. 2020
update...disconnecting the battery ground it’s working again as of today Feb 7, 2020. This is a seldom used function so by not working I mean that it didn’t recognize hand gestures.
  1. Paint chip rear hatch-The rear hatch loses the custom height setting randomly and might require several attempts before it will reset. I have a double deep garage with a low point at an interior overhead door. When the hatch opens at the factory setting it will hit the interior door. Now I am forced to keep my hand on it to stop it if it has reset.
  2. My wife’s headrest sets to the highest position randomly after she sets it to the lowest position. This has been going on for months but we thought that a passenger might have accidentally moved it. I have repeatedly saved it at the lower setting with her setting...#1.

They have ordered a Fuse Box and a Command module/controller with no ETA but the Fuse Box will ship from Germany so I’ll be driving my wife’s Audi on our trip this weekend. 😢

I got to know the Shop Foreman very well last year (he personally took my car as his project) and determined that there was not much they could do until Mercedes figured things out. He is a no BS guy and took the time to take me in the shop and show or explain what he found and discuss his contacts with Tech Support. It built a level of trust that made me more comfortable waiting unlike what many dealers do to get rid of you...i.e. “working as designed” or “no problem found”. In fact he called me to come in as soon as the fix for turning off “Lane Keep” became available.

At one point in July 2019 I had a discussion with the Dealership about pursuing a buyback and replacement of my car. I decided to wait because new GLE builds were still having problems and I really do like my car. I did a Lemon Law with a 2014 GMC Denali truck and don’t really want that hassle again. It worked out financially but was very time consuming. I knew the risk of preordering the redesigned vehicle.

It looks like the new norm for redesigns with all the Tech and outsourcing involved. Ford just announced very poor earnings resulting from their botched rollout of the Explorer. They now have a new CEO and are sending vehicles to another Factory to help fix issues. Auto Co. CEO’s seem to get caught up in the competition to beat the other guys to market only to be surprised that the vehicle launch turns out be a disaster.

Trust with service department is really good to have but you shouldn't have so many issues. The only issue I have had with mine since June is that the easy entry/exit wasn't working correctly, fixed first time with software update.
Really hope you get your car sorted, you certainly deserve it.
