I agree the Native System is very good most of the time. With my Pixel I can access Google Assistant by a long press on the talk button and that comes in handy for searches. It works connected BT or wired USB.

It would really depend on where you are driving. I am navigating the NYC boroughs and we have new construction zones daily, everywhere. It's a zoo over here.

Update in Vehicle

After I downloaded it on my storage medium, I turned on my car and plugged it it. I do see the light on the jump drive flashing that indicates it is being read. Nothing shows on the screen. Should it? It's been on for about 30 minutes. All I downloaded was the Texas map.

Is there something else I need to do?

That's all I did. Check that there are files on the USB drive (that the download was allowed to complete its final write phase). Also, if your car has multiple USB ports, use the first one, lowest number. COMAND should detect it when it starts.

Mine gave me an error. I contacted the dealer and dropped it off this morning. I also told them to check if there are any other software upgrades and to do them also.

Manual map update

So I downloaded the latest update for my region yesterday. It seemed to go fine, but when I plug the thumb drive in nothing happens. Previously the message would pop up asking if I wanted to run the update. Anyone else have this not work?

Edit: Never mind. Tried again with the System settings displayed and it worked.

The more I use MBUX navi, the more I realize that their maps aren't current. I am in NYC, it's not a rural area that you don't expect to be up to date.
I noticed 2 wrong instructions just today on a drive from Manhattan to Brooklyn, and both of those turns were made impossible at least a year ago.
This is very unfortunate as I paid extra for the augmented navigation with the expectation that I will be able to make use of the built-in navi

Does it show V17 for the northeast region? Nav options, map version, details.

Over-the-air updates are pretty slow to catch up.

I'll have a look later but the web version says Version 271 and it was delivered to me with Version 260 prior to the update.
Either way one particular turn it advises is not possible for 2 years now since they redid that boulevard and closed the street permanently in 2017.

FWIW, my manual update shows the version is 350. Mine is not MBUX so the versions might be different, but you should see what the Online map update link in the Mercedes me portal shows. It will tell you the current version and the version that your car currently has.

Is your navigation announcing highway exit numbers? I see that mine often would say "exit on the right" rather than "take exit 5" which is very annoying imo

Do a manual update of the maps from the Mercedes Me portal. You will get a new voice file that has a lot more information.

The only way to get the updated voice files is by doing a manual update. The voice files do not update via the automatic update feature. You can see this on the portal by going to Manual Update and viewing the list of files. It states this somewhere near the bottom of the list.

Sorry let me clarify - when I say "The latest available for download" - this IS the manual download via MB website, on a USB stick

I did a manual update of the Northeast maps this morning and it took maybe 5 minutes. Just turned on vehicle (not engine), inserted thumb drive into one of the adapter cables plugged into USB-C port, and it started. Navigation restarted after a couple of minutes and it reported success. So I assume this will update the voice stuff as well?

You can check by going to the portal and looking at the USA Northeast. It will show two files for your vehicle. One is the nav data and one is the voice info. Both should be the same revision. Mine shows 271.

.
My car (produced October 4th) came with map version 260. I manually updated to 271 last week, and just now checked the Mercedes Me web portal and saw that version 280 is available. It automatically updated the Map data for my region of "USA Northeast" (but not the voice recognition data). Map data for all other regions, + all the voice recognition data, need to be manually updated.

Nice to see updates coming out frequently, and also nice to see automatic map updates (at least for my specified region) are working. Would be good to have voice data automatically updated as well, it would add only about ~30% to the update size.

[Edit] Actually I was mistaken about the automatic update working for my region. The screenshot shows "Updated automatically" but the installed version is still showing 271 with 280 available. I'm not near the car now so can't check if the update actually happened or not.

It will be 271 in the car, mine says updated automatically for UK but it doesn't.

I have given up on the MBUX Navigation and reverted to Google Maps. The MBUX navi is just not good enough - I get weird routings for POIs, the time is always incorrect, and the arrival area is often at the rear of the place itself, but most importantly, I hate the "keep left/right" or "exit left/right" guidance when exit numbers are available. I am driving on several of the biggest highways in the Northeast, it cannot be that they don't have the exit numbers which have been the same since I had a driving license (~20 years). It is extremely frustrating and downright dangerous to have to try and figure out exactly where the "exit to the right" is when you have traffic merging from 3 directions, and a very narrow opportunity to make the exit, but there are two exits available. And forget about street closures due to construction, that doesn't work at all. I hope they make some usability updates soon in regards to that. Yes, I have the latest version.

I agree, even in more remote areas there are issues-but the native system is prettier....
I think Audi is one of the few that decided to go with Google instead of developing their own system. They even started changing the vehicle operating system to Android.
This is one area that Manufacturer’s should link up with Apple & Google. They all waste Millions trying to build their own Nav products that will never really compete and will cost millions more to keep updated. Industry wide over time it’s probably Billions. Vehicle Tech is also a major source of low new car ratings by owners. Mercedes lost $1.3 Billion in Q2 & is now cutting costs by reducing white collar staff in excess of 1000 as they transition to Electric. You can’t help but wonder....”what are they thinking?”
