GLE 2020 and Ipod Classic

Has anybody on the forum been able to connect an Ipod Classic to the Infotaninment? I was thinking of getting a USB-C to a female USB-A and connect my classic Ipod like that.

I didn’t think that MBUX supported the iPod. The connection is one thing but reading the music files might be the issue. Put your tunes on a Smart Phone, I know that works very well. On my Pixel 3 the connection is automatic and the interface to playlists and music files is great!

It's also tough to hook up a turntable!

It won't work. I hooked my iPod Classic up and got "device not supported", it works fine in the 2017 but it's no longer supported in the 2020. With 20k+ plus songs keeping it all on my phone doesn't make sense and I tried keeping an iPod touch hooked up instead but in Texas it only works 1/4 of the time because a touch overheats sitting in the console during the day, a issue the Classic never had.

An option is to export the music from your Ipod Classic to a USB Thumb Drive and use that in the car. I have exported most of my ITunes Library onto a micro 32GB USB-C thumb drive plugged into middle console. It doesn't jut out very far at all and is really unobtrusive. Works great.

The thumb drive option worked great and all the music is available now. Except it doesn't recognize playlists like it does with a paired phone or previously with the iPod.

I am in same boat as Op. I've been holding on to my old iTunes library/iTunes Match/iPod classic because of the car, and then with the GLE and MBUX, I have no need to hoard my data anymore. I am loving Spotify Premium on MBUX although I wish Carplay was a bit more reliable (i.e. it's a bit prone to need a reset/unplug to get it all working). I tried the USB solution but found the UI to be too fiddly for my music collection.

I wish they had a Spotify app alongside TuneIn on the MBUX, it would have been perfect

I have the same issue. My iPod 80Gb is loaded with my entire library. Frustrating as it worked fine in my 2017 GLC, too. I was so excited to finally get my 2020 GLC 350e Hybrid and bought a few Thunderbolt USB adapters. I think I'll try getting a Thunderbolt USB Drive and see if that works.

Problem is, I no longer have my original CDs and don’t want to load all my music to my iPhone, not enough space. I just bought a 128gb samsung flash drive arriving tomorrow to test that method. Gotta be some way to view libraries and create playlists. Cross my fingers!

I have used Media Monkey for years. There are probably better media managers available but With MM it’s easy to organize songs as well as load music to a thumb drive with Playlists. It will also load to Apple or Android phones and numerous other devices. Most of my prior vehicles would recognize the thumb drive playlist but I had one vehicle that wouldn’t....my daughters 2018 CRV does as well as my wife’s 2018 SQ5, haven’t tried my GLE Mercedes.
I always wonder why a person would want to load all of their songs to any portable media device. I have maybe 1100-1200 songs on my phone and even on long trips totaling 20-30 hours I probably get through 1/3 at most. If you have a computer loaded with all of your music and a media manager then you can refresh portions of your library with a favorite mix, oldies, by Artist, new playlists, etc.
I’m far from an expert so might be missing something but I found as my Library grew large it was too much work managing or even knowing what’s there. I prefer to buy my new music on Amazon by song rather than Album. I loaded all of our CD’s on the computer years ago and then erased a lot of songs that we didn’t care for. Even now our library has 3500+ songs-too many to manage. The problem with most CD’s is that there are lots of songs that we don’t care to hear twice. Fortunately my wife and I have similar taste and we “tolerate” the music that one or the other might not like.

I used an IPod Nano in my 2015 ML, but it was no go in my 2020 GLE, so I just switched to an IPod Touch and it works great!

BTW, when is the addition of Amazon Music to the MBUX that was announced earlier in the year going to happen?
