Jack stands
I'm going to change over my own tires/rims for winter, and just got a pair of floor jack stands. I've changed plenty of tires in my day, but having jack stands is new to me (I'm using a floor jack, but with such a heavy vehicle and tire setup the stands seem essential). I believe that I should I lift the car at the jack point on the frame, but if I do that, is there a specific spot to put the jack stand(s)??

I usually put them under the suspension A-arm pivot points, which are quite stout.

As I recall the manual points out a jacking point and a recommenced place for a jack stand.

Ron, manual, really? That thing is way too big. There must be a PDF available somewhere...

Jacking points are described, but no mention of jack stands. The scissor-type jack supplied with the vehicle is less likely to have catastrophic failure than a hydraulic jack. However if you are lifting a whole end of the car you will need to bear weight on at least one stand. The front & rear subframe members are the obvious locations. I found you can lift a whole side of the car from just the rear jacking point if you have a floor jack with enough lift.

�� No argument on size and difficulty but....
There is a PDF previously posted but as I recall it may not be searchable but a little easier to use.

An unused jacking point would be a good place for a Jack Stand. It’s been a long time since I saw the schematics but I thought that there were two at each corner. Might have that wrong but that’s the way I remember it.

Edit: Just checked and only one jacking point on each corner. Audi has 2.

Another method is to block the jack or use a special jack stand.
I use a 4x4 under the lift point on my floor jack so that it can’t collapse. Not all jacks may be built to make that work.
The other method is a special Jack Stand like this one. You jack up the car & install the stand.

Its not always safe to try to crawl under the car to place a jack stand but that depends on the location.

Jacking (up)
I have one of those for my BMW, but never found a problem with a hunk of 2x4! My old (~40 yrs) American-made Walker jack keeps on going. Not sure you can even buy a US one any more.
