Winter wheels off my W166 fit my new V167?

Really struggling with this one guys...trying to use all my resources and coming up flat.

Currently own a 2016 GLE 350 4matic. Currently have a winter rim/snow tire package from TireRack that i run in the Western, NY Winters.

Have an 2020 GLE 350 4matic AMG appearance package with the 21" Multispoke black out wheel option incoming this week.

I am trying LIKE hell to determine if the bolt pattern/backspacing/hub diameters have stayed the same, and thus will allow me to swap my old snow rims onto the new 2020 GLE.

Tried talking to salesman - who talked to Parts dept....they cant determine for sure (incompetent?)
Tried talking to TireRack..."It SHOULD work" is the response, but they didnt fully commit. When i try to order a NEW set of snow tires/rims from TireRack, they dont have anything showing on their website for 2020 models yet?

Hoping someone has already done this? or has inside info?

thanks!
Tim

Only MBs - the best or nothing
It depends on the specs of the TireRack aftermarket wheels you have.

See this: https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...lug-bolts.html

New lug bolts are required (15x1.25 instead of 14x1.5) and current aftermarket wheels' holes may need to be enlarged to accommodate 15mm bolts instead of 14mm. A different (taller) tire may also be required.

2020 GLE 450
Scan this thread as well:
https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...wearing-2.html

Some members have managed to adapt their old 20" inch rims on their new 2020 GLEs.

GLE 450 / E450 Cabriolet
Tirerack can look up your old order by phone number and give you an answer quickly The answer I got cost me $2000 for a new package. Mine is a 450GLE.

If you looked at the couple threads posted, it will give you some clue. I adapted the 20" wheels from my 2012 ML.
  • If you have AMG package, 20" is minimum diameter according to Mercedes, though you could test fit 19s to see if the clear calipers enought.
  • Bolt diameter has gone from 14 to 15mm, Some wheels may accept the larger; if not see my post on drilling out.
  • Hub diameter & bolt spacing are the same
  • Offsets have changed and are now different front/rear; if you are close to stock you are probably fine, but again, a test fit will tell you some things or use the calculator http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp to compare to stock specs (from Dealer Order Guide). I got **** and used spacers in the rear for an exact match, but that required custom lug bolts because extended ones are not yet available in that spec (M15x1.25, R14 seat). Aftermarkets use a conical seat bolt.

GregW,

ive read your extensive journey on trying to make the old wheels fit....seems like a headache. I'm about to pull the trigger on some snow tires off tire-rack that will fit the OEM 21" wheels.

We opted for the third-row seat in this GLE, so we dont have the "space saver" or donut spare. we have zero provisions if we get a flat. I guess we'll arm ourselves with a can of slime and a puncture repair kit and hope for the best.

i was HOPING i could get a part number for a donut spare that is equipped on regular GLEs, however as you mentioned with the AMG pacakge, i'm not sure it will fit over the rotor?

thoughts?

Dave,
you were able to get tire-rack to quote you on a new wheel/tire combo for the 2020 GLE? when i go on their website it doesn't list any wheels available yet.....

If you have the 3rd row package, it should come with the "TireFit" kit which is essentially that? Check under the small storage area under the trunk, underneath where the cargo cover might be stored.

The spacesaver spare that came with my AMG Line is a T155/80-19, which should fit obviously should fit the front brakes if Mercedes included it.

The car is still too new so their website hasn’t been updated, but a few of us have been able to put together a wheel and tire package that works.

275-50-20 tires
20x8.5in wheels in 45mm offset

This offset will get you close to stock without modifications. You can run spacers in the front but it clears the brakes and suspension just fine.

tire rack supplies lug bolts, stems, and tpms sensors if needed.

Just under 2300 for the entire set for blizzak tires and MSW wheels. I think the details are all in the “what winter tires are you wearing” thread.

Tirerack hasn't had a 2020 GLE in their shop yet with the AMG Package (which includes sports brakes), so they conservatively do not show any options. However several members here (myself included) have the GLE (450 in my case) with Sport Brakes and have found that the 20" rims work fine. Here's what I ordered (I specified 2020 GLE450, just picked regular and not Sport Brakes):

20X8.5 MSW TYPE 30 BLK MACH
275/50R-20 BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK DM-V2 XL
Then I added in TPMS sensors they recommended, had them mount and balance, and my total delivered with tax was just under $2,200.

Good luck!

That is strange. This exact spare donut was/is used in W166 GLE/ML 63/43/550. The tires on W167 GLE450 AMG Line are 2" taller in diameter. Guess they did not have room for just under 31" spare nor there's a donut spare in 31" diameter (there's one in 30" diameter, but room must be an issue). Still a 2" diameter difference on a 4matic is not a small one.

Yeah, it is tight down there. If you were ordering one to just throw in the back, you could find a larger diameter tire.
