Has anyone had issues with their dashboard going black? This happened to me when I was driving and my speedometer just went black. I took it to the dealer and they are testing. Maybe I am the only lucky one but they stated that Mercedes does not have anything on their database of incidents like this, but are looking into it. They said I did not need a software update. The right side screen worked fine, my navigation, my music, everything worked. But the left side, none of the buttons worked anymore, and nothing showed up when starting up the car but just a faint picture of the SUV and no speedometer or RPM. The dealer said it came back when they started it up, but wanted to try and reproduce the issue. Technology is just so awesome that sometimes it's worrisome and scary when things break. Both my kids were riding with me, I was just driving blind and not knowing how fast I was going. Hope they find out what's wrong.
I've had the other screen go black (the media screen), but not the instruments display. A software update (FUP2) fixed it for me except in one circumstance... The instrument display going black or not starting is a reasonably common fault on the A class with MBUX according to the forums.
The one circumstance - when i've got a 128GB USB-C memory stick plugged into the armrest socket containing speed camera points of interest - then reasonably often the media display will stay black screened when I start the car.... if you've got a memory stick plugged in, i'd suggest removing it and seeing if you've still got the issue.
I've only had the left screen image freeze, not go black.
That said, it is most likely a modulke going berserk and it will get progressively worse, affecting other systems. Log these events, get photo and video proof to show the dealer.
I brought my car to the dealer Dec 19th, and I expect to get it back tomorrow, Jan 8. They ended up changing a module which messed up BUS comms.
Dealer called today and said they are ordering a new screen because the software is already up to date. They can't reproduce the problem. I do have a USB stick I use for music and never had a problem. They are still running diagnostics. We'll see what they have to say.
Eric Suger, if my brightness was all the way down, why am I able to see the mileage and gear shift? And why would I be driving and want to turn my brightness down all the way for? Even if you turn the brightness all the way down, it would not go black like that.

I had some weirdness once after my car completed an over-the-air update. I am not sure if that was just a maps update or firmware, but the displays were not right. I waited 5 minutes (to make sure update completed), then shut the car down and restarted. It was fine after that.

this happened to me yesterday. I went straight to the dealership and no one had ever seen it happen. It ended up “fixing” itself, after I turned the car off and on, several times!
I have had my instrument display go black on two occasions since owning the vehicle. Both occurred at start up. In each case, I shut the vehicle off and restarted it. Everything worked fine at that point.
One time everything went out but it didn't quite look like your example. A restart didn't fix it, disconnecting the battery for a minute did the trick. This was over a year ago and it hasn't happened since.

Sometimes a "full restart" involves shutting off the engine, then opening the door, closing it and restarting it.
