So i had the whistling sound kick in at about 50+ mph. Took to the dealer and they said they fixed it with a strip of tape inside the mirror housing. WRONG. Still had the sound. I was driving home from the dealer and i thought maybe if i roll down the window and stick my gum on different spots on the mirror housing it would alter the wind flow and noise would stop. Yep. After a few tries I stopped the whistle in its tracks. My permanent fix will be attaching a tiny black rubber furniture pad like in the picture.

What you are doing is creating “turbulators”, that trips laminar airflow to turbulent airflow. The disturbance can stop the whistle — if you find the right spot. Rather than furniture pads, recommend you try clear door pads that you can buy at Lowe’s or Home Depot. They are small and you can put them in rows or stagger them...whatever works. Will be less noticeable than a black pad. It doesn’t take much to disturb the airflow and stop the whistle.
I personally don’t think the noise is coming from the mirror housing.
I think it’s coming from top of window rubber frame seal. Going to run tape along outside window frame and take it for a drive on freeway

You (or others) could buy a cheap stethoscope, and listen to specific areas. Perhaps insert a plastic straw into the end after removing the head, to pinpoint better.
I've found my stethoscope to be a valuable tool for many investigations.
I have spent 1,000 to 3,000 miles in each of three versions of V167 autos, and 5,000 in my new GLE53, and haven't heard a whistle. None of them. And I'm sensitive to such things - ask my wife!
Pick up the GLS450 in May and started to hear these whistling noise when I am going over 100km/hr, I did a lot of search (thanks to the forum and this threads), I tried the 3M tape, the O rings, neither of them worked. so I came across with some YouTube videos about similar issues with Volvo and Lexus, what they did to fix this problem is to use the cabinet door bumps. it worked! We drove over 1,200km the past week for road trip and the noise is gone. I agree this issue is design flaw and something to do with aero dynamic. so, here are the pictures! I basically stick the bumps all around, but I will slowly take them off one by one, and pinpoint which area really caused the issue. here are some pictures. hope this will help everyone until MB has a permanent fix.
Has anyone experiencing this annoying sound visited their MB dealership VERY recently? Somewhere on this site someone posted a message that MB now has a service bulletin regarding this issue. Personally, I am holding off bringing in my GLE until a legitimate, proven fix is provided to all MB service departments. Using these home remedies that may or may not resolve the issue is not satisfactory, and I do wholeheartedly agree with GLE owners who feel that this is unacceptable in any vehicle especially such an expensive one. I am understanding that these issues arise, it is not a safety issue, and eventually it will get resolved. I am quite certain that MB have people monitor these websites to get current information on problems which are plaguing current owners, I would hope that they will get it corrected real soon, any very recent update would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is a service bulletin and a fix at the dealership. I might have posted the service bulletin earlier, but not able to repost at this time. New builds have the issue addressed.

Having mine done tomorrow. Tired of waiting on a redesign. Don’t have high hopes of it correcting the noise and it if does then it won’t for long… literally a band-aid fix…a “put some tape on it” fix is ridiculous for a vehicle like this.

I had that "fix" done a while ago...it didn't do anything. The only thing that worked are those crappy looking carbon fiber mirror covers. I've decided to get rid of the truck in my mind so I'm over it. Worst car purchase I have ever made. The new Grand Cherokee looks awesome and is probably 2/3 price and will have better features and surely a better engine. I'm done with Mercedes.

That's probably the only thing that will (initially) please you, so get on with it.
Just don't be surprised when you find that the JGC costs more for similar features.
Thank you bkushner and w205c43pfl. Did it worked? If it did, I am pissed with my dealer service advisor. I went in around August and was told no fix available even though this service bulletin is dated July 2020.

Don't personally have a GLE but my friend does and to be honest, sadly it doesn't do much to my friend's car in terms of reducing noise. You could try this method someone else posted instead: https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...ml#post8369075
Yup, kind of sad that you need to do something like this on a car of this calibre but it is what it is...
Hi All, I am kind of shocked to say that 3rd time was a charm. After step 1 and 2 of foaming or whatever was done, last week I went in for the third attempt and they did replace the driver side mirror. They ordered it and had it painted and I tested the car this weekend and the whistling at 50mph seems to be gone. It was a windy weekend and there might have been some wind buffeting on the car and at most I heard maybe a super quiet whooshing but I'm happy so far. I cruised anywhere from 40-80mph and the annoying whistling which you could hear (without music) before was gone. I honestly can't see any difference in the actual mirror.

My service advisor has told me that MBUSA has came out with a fix that involves with switching the mirror housing. The part is not the same as the original part, and so far they have not had anybody come back. For those who are still having the wind issue, I would advise you to inquire with your service advisor to see if you can get it switched out.
